Although we've had a lot of people recruiting for Fantasy Football, we really haven't had all that much basic discussion on any questions people have about it...So along with answering any questions you guys have about the fast-approaching NFL Fantasy Football 2005 season, I think this would also be a great place for those of you who already have a league/team to post your lineup and to get advice from some your GameSpot peers (aside from the FF "gurus" out there).
FAQ & Tips
For those of you who may not have joined a league yet, here are some of the various sites that you can visit for FREE Fantasy Football: ESPN.com, NFL.com, and AOL.com. Those are probably your top three best bets. However, on ESPN's Fantasy Football, you're going to have to download Java for your draft (which doesn't take long and is FREE). Out of all the drafts out there, ESPN's is probably the most organized and looks similar to what you would see on TV on an actual Draft Day back in April 2005. Most sites (all that I listed, at least) pre-ranks their players--which is especially useful for novices. However, if you're doing a live draft, it really isn't neccessary as you'll probably be able to figure out who want or what type of player you need. If you're doing an automated draft, then the computer choses the draft order and goes through and picks for everyone in your league (which is really boring if you ask me). In the case of an automated draft, if you really think you know what you're doing, then it's useful for you to rank your players yourself because in this way, you may end up with a better result that what the computer will come up for you. At any rate, I would reccomend a live draft; it's way more exciting.
Once you have your players for your team (a QB, RB, WR, WR, RB/WR, TE, K, and D/ST) then the fun begins--at least when the 2005 season kicks off on September 8th. Of the sites I listed above, NFL.com probably does the best in getting you ready for each week of the season; at your league's homepage, they'll give you updates (in the offseason, preseason, and regular season) on how your players are doing (if they're making good/bad strides, injured, etc.). NFL.com will also give you updates on what players that you may not have drafted to watch out for. For example, whoever landed Antonio Gates last year early on definitely looked like a genius. ESPN.com will give you all that NFL.com does and more, but you have to pay for it (they call it giving your team the Edge).
If anybody has updates/reviews on any other Fantasy Football hosting sites, let's have it. As the 2005 Fantasy Football season nears, I think this should be a great place for people to pick up helpful tips and hints from a group of people that know a lot of different teams and a lot of different players. Good Luck!
