It's looking more and more like Reggie Bush is going to hold out and miss time due to a contract dispute.  What do you guys make of the situation?

Sure, it's easy for a superstar to say he doesn't want a hold-out, but actually taking less money isn't an option?  I hate rookies.

Of course he's gonna hold out, but after all the humanitarian things he's done you'd think he'd be in pads when preseason rolls around.

And, while a different position, Phillip Rivers in 04?

Different because Rivers was only going to be in charge of a clipboard that year, while Bush has basically reached Sainthood in New Orleans and is expected to carry the team this year. They are same in the respect they are self centered.

Rivers might have made a battle out of it if he didn't hold out, before the past 2 years Drew Brees hasn't been that great. And on Reggie he will definatly hold out.

So it seems Bush's agent is waiting for VY to sign a deal, then he can base his negotiations off of what Mario Williams and Vince Young got.

I hate all agents!  I hate what this does to the game of football!  Reggie Bush is a great player, and he's a stand-up guy from what I've seen.  You know that his agent is pulling all the strings to make this happen.  We've reached a point in the NFL where you can't really say that a player's holding out is a black mark on his character.  These guys don't know anything about business negotiations and contracts when they get drafted.  They have no choice but to accept the advice of these professional slime bags.  Let the guys play.  Does it really matter if he makes $45 million or $52 million?

I guess to these guys it does. Come on, I wouldn't even make $45 million if I could live my life three time over. The way professional sports is going... every year the salary cap goes up, in 10-15 years rookies will be signing 5-yr $100 mil contracts. They should think about all the homeless, poor, starving people that are less fortunate than they and get their a**es on the field.

Don't get caught up in the numbers. It's easy to look at 45 mil and 52 mil and say, either way you're still rich. But it's about getting your value. If you apply the same principles to "normal" jobs it makes more sense. If you are an accountant who's really good you should make more those who aren't good. and in the case of a rookie if you are a new employee, say a lawyer with impecable credentials, you just graduated from Harvard Law, had a perfect GPA and you interned with the US supreme court, and they offered you 30,000 a year, you'd be offended, because you would expect to make more than that, especially if someone with less credentials is making that amount. You'd be in a position to make some demands, even though you have yet to do anything within the firm.

A 10-15% difference in his team contract is nothing compared to the endorsement money that he will miss out on if he doesn't get on the field and produce.  He's already made $7 million plus for his endorsements before stepping foot on an NFL field, and everybody knows that those companies will pull future deals if Bush becomes taboo like T.O. or Kobe Bryant during his trial.  If he becomes an "advertising risk," it will take a long time to regain the faith of media buyers.  That's the big risk for 1st round picks and team superstars.  Bush has the potential to make the LeBron James kind of money if he can maintain his nice guy appearance and put up some solid numbers in his rookie season.

I dont think he should hold out, noone should hold out and hes only a rookie. We dont know how he will do in the NFL. People have been picked early and not done well. Number 2 Overal pick in I forget what year, Ryan Leaf. He didnt have much of a careeer. Same thing can happen to any rookies so they should be all greedy expessialy when they havent played an NFL game

Ryan Leaf was 2nd in 98, and the Colts had seriously considered drafting him And I don't care about this whole "Value" crap. I don't think I'd be able to spend $45 million in my life

I know he was picked 2nd in 1998...

He threw 2 TD's and 15 INT's in his first season.

I was using him as an example of someone who got picked high and didnt do good cuz it happens...

This is a very good point.  It's not about the money, it's about status.  If he took less money, to him it'd be like saying he's not as good.  But sometimes you just have to accept what you can get.

Its official, he's holding out because he thinks he deserves more money then Williams and Young This is probably part of the reason the Texans passed on him I bet he doesn't remember Cedric Benson last year, almost exact same situation minus much of the hype surrounding Bush(i.e. having an established back)

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's missed ONE day of practice, he's done, why is he even gonna try and play, i'm already tired of him, get him out of the league. Geez, way to get on his back, it's one thing to hold a grudge, but seriously ONE DAY, and you're on him. If it gets to a week, then you can start talking.
