i never understood the limitations consoles had for online games, for example when they say "the pc version will offer a maximunm of 32 players and the xbox one (for example) 16"

is the wii capable of running a massive online game?

when we played a console version of a pc game sometimes missed the mouse a lot (i mean playing age of empires properly was only possible in a pc) now the wii could have a good real time strategy game without compromising the gameplay

It's not the system that can't run it. It depends on the servers the console uses.

Yes, and yes.

RTS the controls would be awesome, since the Wiimote could be used as a mouse.

And if the Dreamcast did it with PSO, and the PS2 and Xbox did it. The Wii could definately do it.

The Playstation 2 required a 40 GB harddrive addon to be able to play FFXI.
The Wii only has 512 MB of memory.
Then again Everquest Online Adventures didn't require the HDD. It wasn't anywhere near as good though, I don't think.

No I'm pretty sure it can. I tried to imply that you;d need to get a HDD addon. Where would it connect to though?

Of course, even the Cube had one IIRC. And RTSs are possible. I'd like to see more, and the traditional kind. I love Pikmin/Battalion Wars though so.

Offically just the LAN adapter. Though you can also plug in a keyboard and use it in place of the on-screen one (assuming you're up-to-date with your FW updates), or just an IPod or whatever to charge it.

I would only consider another MMO on one of Nintendo's consoles, and that's because it's pretty much the only way they would keep it free. MMOs eat up so much time, paying a monthly fee on top of that is out of the question.

PS: Go Sox!

Yeah, but unfortunately the most logical mmorpg candidate, Pokemon, will never happen.

Edit: Also third party developers probably will choose not to make mmorpgs for the wii seeing as most serious developers have the mindset, "Wii is for casual games..."

I really dont think that the Wii have the software to handle a modern MMO. Wii's CPU is too weak to handle any thing close to a modern MMORPG smoothly. Also, I dont think that the Wii's adapter is very fast either.

The Wii has an 802.11G adapter. 802.11G is plenty fast for just about any internet connection (heck, so is 802.11B).

I really wish they'd stop w/ the causual gamer stuff. Many companys are coming up with more soft core games and much less games that a serious gamer can enjoy are being made. Plus the fact that Nintendo of America have a weak control system of what types of game is released on the wii ( chicken shoot, sudoku, other related junk)

So basically, with a hard drive adapter, there is no reason the Wii cannot have an MMORPG to the standard of FFXI, or even up to, graphically, World of Warcraft.

http://au.gamespot.com/news/6178305.html?tag=result;title;0

That page shows Hiromichi Tanaka's views on an MMORPG such as FFXI on the Wii.
He doesn't seem to see a future in it, so Square Enix probably won't be putting their next-gen MMORPG on the Wii.
He states the controller as being an issue, I can't see how it's any different to other controllers personally, maybe this is just in reference to sharing a single MMORPG across platforms.
He also states resolution a sbeing a dificulty.

But I see no reason that an MMORPG such as MapleStory, wouldn't work perfectly on the Wii. It's more casual than most MMOs, so probably hits the target market right on the head.

No hard drive, no hard core gamers they won't do it. Smarter doing it on the 360 or ps3 you can port it to both.

Heaps of people who play World of Warcraft are casual gamers. There is a market for MMORPGs on the Wii.

Give me proof that their is no hardcore gamers that would play. Wait, you can't. And a harddrive on Wii is inevitable.

Quit stealth trolling. Go to the system wars to express your hate for the Wii.

As Catfish already pointed out, modern MMOs must recieve patches and updates. (eg. for new items/quests/etc, to fix balancing issues, etc etc)

the wii is the best console for maple story.i wonder why dont they make it.it hasnt got subscription,it is 2d and even super nintendo could handle it,it doesnt need too many buttons, and also is very close to the concept nintendo has with great cartoony graphics.

the only bad thing i remember is the exp rate and that can change (x100 server)

although i believe with a hard disk the wii can handle ffxi and wow, but i wouldnt want to pay subscriptions for an mmo,so if they make one they better make it without subscription or it will fail

for rts i am w8 for pikmin 3 (yes nintendo we are w8 for this game)
