I think the deciding factor for me is that I can see myself playing Super Metroid thirty years from now. I can't see myself playing Metroid Prime at all. (I haven't even played it at all since I first played it)
It doesn't do that much to stand out nor will it age well as it can always be updated by "just another game in the series"
The prime series is okay but Metroid belongs in 2D IMO.jd3077

But modern gaming belongs in 3D. Like I said, I respect the Metroid 2D series but overall, it just bored me out.
i actually think that metroid stayed true to their style while going from 2d to 3d then most games. mario, for example, is extremely different in 3d. though, i love it. i don't feel like it kept it's style as well as metroid did.
when all is said and done though, i liked 3d better.captainlouie

Lol yeah it did do a good job at keeping it's **** It remains to be seen if Super Mario Galaxy will or not... :/

I think there is a place for 2d games as well as 3d games. Unfortunately most people seem to agree with you that 2d gaming is old and outdated. Â

Well I guess it just depends on the game. I played some of Metroid's 2D games but I didn't stick with them (mainly I just got distracted). I thought the story was well done as well as the gameplay. Sprite games are always awesome, but nowadays, the modern games kind of engulf the other classics. Besides I see a very bright future for the Wii's future game titles...maybe classic-beaters.Â
3D is way better imo... i felt more emersed into the 3d gamesZumaJones07
I agree but if the metroid games sucked on the 2d graphics, games would have never gone to 3d.
I still find it funny that out of all the nintendo series mp and mp2 were acually harder than i though. I thought it would be a easy nintendo game like zelda tp but i was wrong.
I really cant compare I only beat one metroid so far (Fusion) I played prime 1 but I hated scanning and locking on....
So ill say 2d wins
Edit: WAit I forgot I beat hunters too
Idea lets start a pettion for a 2-3D game like New supermario bros.! j/k
I played metroid prime 2, and dissliked the controls. They seemed realy horrible to me. Maybe If I had played for longer I'd have got used to them I may have enjoyed it, but I didn't. Ive only ever played one 2D metroid game too, and that was super metroid. I did enjoy it, but i stll didnt think it was all that amazing,
One of my favorite last-gen games was Metroid Prime and I'm enjoying MP2 now... but Super Metroid was one of the best games I've ever played and I've also equally enjoyed the first Metroid back in the day.
Tough decision... but I give a slight edge to 2D, although Metroid is great either way.
I just hope that Metroid Dread is an actual project for the DS. A new 2-D Metroid in the style of NSMB would be heaven. metroidman7_11
Oh god yes, I hope it resurfaces. I want stuff to happen after Fusion.
As for 2D vs 3D, Metroid made as good as a conversion as Zelda did, so while the view and graphics are completely different they feel amazingly connected. After playing Zero Mission and Fusion, then playing Prime 1 and 2, followed by Super Metroid, I'll have to give the edge ever so slightly to 2D, just because they had the time to hone the formula to an exact science making it amazingly fun to play even now. That and scanning, the Prime series has too much scanning.
Umm.... Super Metoid is an awesome game and really defined metroid.
But Metriod Prime was the best Gamecube game and echoes is okay. I will say 2D cauze Fusion.Super and Zero Mission are excellent games.
If corruption is good then 3D will be better
To be honest, in terms of gameplay they are both very similar. 2-d Metroids consisted of exploring maze like levels, with puzzles in namy of the 'rooms' until you found a new upgrade which allowed you to travel to areas that you could not go previously. This conecpt is nearly identical in the 3-d games. They still have lots of baddies to fight, only now you can lock on sinc ein 3d it is harder to hit a bad guy than it is in 2d.Â
Weapons and jumping and level design are all very similar in both 2d and 3d. I would say that the 3d games are a little bit better only because the graphics are very nice, where as 2d versions are all cartoony looking (not bubbly but they look drawn if you know what I mean) so in my opinion 3d wins. Also, I found the 3d games to be a bit longer, which is always better.
Now comes Metroid Prime 3, using a brand new control scheme with motion sensing, the series is about to change and Im sure that if you didn't know which style is better, after this game it will be 3d for the win by a long shot (assuming it is as good as it sounds).
I dislike both. I hate all the back tracking galore.vashkey
I didnt like the NES and SNES versions at all. I thought Prime was one of the best games ive ever played. Prime 2 i got real bored with all the back tracking also. Prime one it didnt bother me at all but i guess once i got to the 2nd one i got bored with it.Â
