3DS backwards compatibility multiplayer?

WIll the 3DS be able to play DS games on Wi-Fi and wireless local connections too? I have a friend who wanted a DS, but when the 3DS was revealed, they changed their mind to that. I will also be getting one, but will it play DS games on multiplayer too? Thanks in advance.

It shouldn't really be a problem, but they've not announced anything as of yet. That and the DS couldn't do multiplayer with GBA games, although that was more to do with a lack of support for GBA cables.

Well that depends on what they do with their online infrastructure, if there are big fundamental changes i.e. the friend codes, I doubt it will work. The same goes for Tag Mode, since its universal now instead of single game related, it probably cant pick up data from the DS.
