3ds compatible??

3DS will be an entirely new system so you can't play the games on your regular DS.

You CAN play your DS games on the 3DS though; just not the other way around.

To play 3DS games you will need a 3DS. That is definite. Seeing as 3DS games have much better graphics than DS games which will require a 3DS to run. You can play DS games on your 3DS though as it's 100% backward compatible.

since this is a 3ds topic im just gonna throw this question in, anybody know if the 3ds will have an online service?? :)Bangerman15

There is some details of it's online service listed here. http://www.siliconera.com/2010/09/29/first-details-of-nintendo-3ds-online-services/ I've also heard stuff about an achievement system of some kind, forgot where though.

We don't know much yet but from the pics of the 3DS store it looks promising

As others have said, the 3DS will be 100% BC, meaning that DSi and DS games will work on it, though not the other way around. Also on the 3DS, it will have virtural console. If Nintendo does it justice, expect all the big name Gameboy/ gameboy advance games to be avialbleon it after awhile.
