3DS graphical power...

So, from watching the Kid Icarus trailer for the 3DS the graphical power looks to be the same as the PSP or PS2. Kinda disappointing, was expecting Gamecube graphical power. So IGN's rumor was completely false about it being almost as powerful as the 360/PS3.

I was actually impressed with the graphics of course my expectations were much lower than yours as anything IGN says is absolute crap.

The GBA was said to have PS1 graphics. The DS was said to have N64 graphics. Why are you surprised about this?

Remember as time goes by the better games will look. The 3DS has just started its cycle imagine in 2 years 3 years how the games will look. Developers have just begun to play around with it so give it some time.

I was impressed especially after they showed the system running MGS3D (Snake Eater). The new DS is pretty powerful being able to run MGS3.

I think it's way better the PSPs graphical power. Not quite reaching gamecube visuals though. It probably could with a bit of fine tuning.

I didn't think it looked like PS2 at all, if you look closer at many of the textures it looks like it's at least as good as Wii, which of course is not a big difference from the ps2 but it is a difference. The RE pics look good but could be CG or something, the GC REmake also looked about that good too.

Many DS games looked better than N64 games, Metroid Prime Hunters, Mario Kart DS, and the Zelda games would be the best examples. I'd say the 3DS looks close to Wii in graphics abilities, as the screen is small though it will look really good. It's processor is probably higher than the Wii but as it's sort of powering 3 screens it would have to be.

Several things to remember.

1. These are launch graphics.

2. These are launch graphics of incomplete games, no less.

3. The longer the system is around, the better developers get at utilizing the hardware. Compare early PS3 games to Uncharted 2, or early 360 games to Alan Wake. Hell, compare early DS games to Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

The SNES needed an additional processor in the game cartridge to handle 3D. The Game Boy Advance could process the same effect all on its own. So at the very least the GBA's base hardware was better than the SNES.

Resident Evil 4 looks much better on the GCN than it did on the PS2. You know those FMVs on the PS2 version? They were rendered in real time on the GCN (I mean that they were literally recorded from this version of the game).

Some of the pics ive seen look on par with wii, maybe only slightly lower. cant wait to see the thing running in 3d, thats were I'm sure all of us will be blown away, and if we can get a service were we can subscribe and watch 3d movies on the fly, wow I'd be very impressed.

I think it is pretty reasonable to expect PS3 graphics on a hand held. I also believe it would cost more than most mid range computers from best buy! AKA it will not happen this gen. IGN strikes again.ekalbtwin

The 3DS seems to handle normal maps better than teh Wii.
