From that video, I'm starting to believe it will have more jaggies and less framerate than the original N64 version :?

Really? I thought it l looked great.
Looks great, although I do wish they'd have touched up the graphics more. The only thing I kind of miss is the heavy atmosphere/foggy effectin the original game. Gave it personality.
Im just glad that 3ds will offiaclly stop those 2d zelda games and those toon link games. Knowing they can put Oot in makes me feel better on what they can do for now on. Like they can actually but twilight princess on here if they wanted to lol (would of been cool if it came with Oot)
i spent the first 40 seconds thinking "you sure that's not the original intro?" then i spent the rest of the video thinking "you sure that's not the original intro, but with link and epona's new models?" i'd take it as a bad sign :/BrunoBRS
It has me scared. Sure those pics looked great but that was...
wind waker was a gamecube game. and the best zelda game. and one of the prettiest games ever to date. i'm not sure nintendo will give up on cel-shaded link yet.Im just glad that 3ds will offiaclly stop those 2d zelda games and those toon link games. Overall it looks a lot better but some of the textures, like the cliff face, look better in the old one. The brown rock wall just looks... bland. I think the fog was just there in the old one to overcome the draw distance limitations but it definitely added to the atmosphere.TankZorzyes that's exactly why it was there. doesn't mean they couldn't have kept a foggy view with the new, amped rendering distance.
whats wrong with you guys? your missing the bigger picture, this is one of the best Zelda games, second to Link's awakening on the SNES to exist, i'd be happy with a straight N64 port, but we're getting it polished touched up and in 3D, its gonna be epic!
the SNES game is a link to the past. and neither are even close to my top zelda games.whats wrong with you guys? your missing the bigger picture, this is one of the best Zelda games, second to Link's awakening on the SNES to exist, i'd be happy with a straight N64 port, but we're getting it polished touched up and in 3D, its gonna be epic!

it's an updated port of an N64 game....this isn't built from the ground up
if it was then it'd look better than it does now, but that'd also take way more time to develop and way more money
just look at all those HD ports of n64 games on the 360...banjo games, perfect dark, etc....those have updated visuals, but nothing 360 game wise
like i said...this game looks phenomenalcompared to it's N64 counterpart and will look even better on the tiny 3DS screen....i really don't know what everyone here was expecting
Looks a lot better to me.Here's a video comparison of the original intro and the 3DS intro.

new models, unglitching of stuff like the water temple, and new textures. note as i'm not complaining about the 3D models, i'm complaining about the textures, which is just a fancy name for a .JPG image pasted over said models (i.e. terrain models) over and over. they just chose to keep the textures looking bad.[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"][QUOTE="Prince_Denspion"]the SNES game is a link to the past. and neither are even close to my top zelda games. Four Swords Adventures, Twilight Princess and of course, Wind Waker, are way better. i usually keep 4 swords adventures out of these lists because it's such a different game, but yes it's amazing. my top 3 are wind waker in first, with twilight princess and minish cap tied for second (can't choose which one i like the most).whats wrong with you guys? your missing the bigger picture, this is one of the best Zelda games, second to Link's awakening on the SNES to exist, i'd be happy with a straight N64 port, but we're getting it polished touched up and in 3D, its gonna be epic!

Couple things I noticed:Here's a video comparison of the original intro and the 3DS intro.
ANIMEguy10034
Improved textures and character models (kinda obvious), better sky/cloud/moon textures, the moon actually has a glow around it now, they added flower sprites to the field, improved trees (you can make out the individual leaves instead of a blocky mess), the torches on the castle have a glow around them now, water seems more transparent and has a more detailed and faster moving animated texture, they replaced the ugly rock/tree boundary sprites, death mountain actually looks like a 3D model instead of a pre-rendered backdrop, they toned down the distant fog, it has a further draw distance, and the dead trees at the end have quite a bit more polys.
They seem to have touched it up quite a bit.

did you play it with 3 other friends? because you can't truly understand it without friends. it's like playing monopoly single player.Guys, this is just the background video playing behind the start screen logo. It's not exactly supposed to enthrall you. It's not a trailer.jedinatit's also a "background video playing behind the start screen logo" with the gameplay graphics of the game itself. so yeah, i think it's something to complain about.

If they made them too detailed things would start to look a bit weird given the simplistic environments of the original game.
as in these:

I'm not seeing a huge graphical difference here. This is seeming more and more like a cheap ploy for Nintendo to sell more 3DS's.
A ploy. Yeah. Like people DON'T want a portable Ocarina of Time, but just MIGHT go for it if the graphics are good enough.I'm not seeing a huge graphical difference here. This is seeming more and more like a cheap ploy for Nintendo to sell more 3DS's.

@BrunoBRS: You'll have to iterate your point more clearly.
^ my point is they could have used better textures, because they did (even if they went for textures so realistic and bright it's offsetting). they could have done better than what they did in the intro trailer/hyrule field, and all it took was a higher-res texture file, which is changing just a single line of code and replacing an image file.BrunoBRS
To be fair the Hyrule field is a lot bigger than the areas you posted. They probably tiled the **** out of that grass texture already. I doubt they're just being lazy.

The problem is that Nintendo outsourced the game to Grezzo who isnt that great of a developer

They have only developed one game(?!) We don't know anything about this firm except that the CEO worked on the Mana and FF games. I kinda like the idea that Nintendo is handing down work to other companies while they're busy working on Project Café (too much N6 rumours for me I guess...)

there's something that, for the sake of me not bothering doing my research, i'll call "progressive loading". it's the reason draw/rendering distances exist. as you move in one direction, the game starts loading the things in the direction you're going. it's a common thing in games with big worlds (hell, even metroid prime uses it), and hyrule field is no exception. so if they were having trouble loading with a constant framerate when using the "good" texture, they could have a) reviewed the code to see if there was nothing they could do to improve; b) cut the draw distance a bit; or c) replace the texture for a crappy one. and that's assuming they tested with a better texture first and then decided it wasn't working. Please Log In to post.
