Can we expect one of these in the future? You know, like a 3DS Lite or something.

Long story short, I've been making a little bit of money online, and I wanted to put it towards a birthday gift for my little brother. His birthday isn't for a while, but I know that he'd like a DS much more than a PSP. I'd rather him have a 3DS because it's newer and it still plays DS games. However, the MAJOR thing that's stopping me is the battery life. If Nintendo never improves the battery life, I'd probably end up getting him a DS Lite or I'd end up spending the money on something else.

Is this unrealistic? What do you guys think?

They remodel is bound to happen eventually considering Nintendo's portable history, but I think it's still a ways off unless the rumors come true about a remodel at the Tokyo Game Show. Otherwise, I expect to see a remodel in at least two years.

I've come to the conclusion that it will be called the 3ds BLU standing for Battery Life Up. I think it's rather likely considering the traditionally amazing naming from Nintendo.

Consider the Nyko Power Pak+ accessory to extend the 3DS's battery life. It's usually ony $15-20.

Yeah, I've heard of this. Supposedly, it can double the battery life, but won't it void your warranty?

Wait until Sep. 13 and then make a decision.

They're having a huge 3DS conference and there are (extremely fake sounding) rumors about a new 3DS model.

if they could've easily improved the battery life they already would've done it. the 3DS works hard, especially when on 3D mode producing two images at once. I wouldn't keep your hopes up for improved battery life.

You can't have a 3DS Lite with better battery life. It would have to be 3DS XL, because the battery needs to be bigger. There's no "fat" left to trim on the 3DS. That said, look into Power Pak+

Ahh... yeah 3DS XL would probably make more sense. Yeah, I guess they had a difficult time with the battery life, but technology moves fast. Who knows what could happen in a year from now? I'm hopeful, but I won't be too disappointed if they aren't able to make a remake with a better battery life. @SuperFlakeman - Yeah, I've heard those rumors about a new model with a second analog stick. Personally, I think the exaggerated claims like this are BS also. It's not easy to simply add another method of input to something like this. However, it could be possible that it's a minor remodel (like the DSi and the DSi XL, for example).

Yeah I'm all up for it. But if this gets announced on the 13th I am going to be so cheesed off. I just bought my 3ds only 6 days ago. I would be happy to see another 3ds or lite what ever it is in a year or so.

Well, I don't think they're going to release a new model that soon, but I would really hope to see one at least next year.

Pretty sure it's coming. But third party batteries will also be made with longer life, so you won't be forced to get a new one if you want to play the 3DS for longer.

This. Sell us a battery with a new cover (because obviously stronger batteries need to be somewhat bigger) and I'm good although the 3DS' battery isn't as bad as I thought it would be..

Besides, the 3DS is small and light already. I can't imagine getting anything thinner than this that won't be sacrificing.

Yea I dont see battery ever improving with the current tech in the 3ds (maybe SLIGHTLY but not double-triple like some people think)...They would have done it if they could the first time and not a lot has changed in the months the 3DS has been out.

The only thing they can do is make the system bigger to fit a bigger battery, but if they do that we are looking at a 3DS XL and its going to need a bigger screen which in turn will need more battery.

They've remade every other handheld, don't see why they wouldn't do this one.

if CPU power consumption can be lowered that'll help.

its not really the CPUs or GPU thats killing the battery. its the screens. the lights on those are the real battery killers. with 3D on its even worse as the light from the 3D screen has to be increased further. there are things that can be done to improve the bettery though like: 1) a switch to OLED screens. i dont know if these screens also work with the 3D tech in the 3DS but if it does then that can reduce the battery drain. 2) a bigger battery (in terms of capacty) of course. it may be possible to store more power in the same space. the PSP had batteries available with much larger capacities than the standard one but they were physicaly the same sice as the standard one. 3) reduce the transistor size on the SOC even further. it wouldnt be a huge benefit but every little helps. 4) reduce the number of LEDs in the system. again these are a pretty tiny drain but every little helps. 5) there may be other stuff on the board they can refine or remove to reduce power consumption. whenever the 3DSLite comes (in whatever form that is) these are the kinds of things we could very well see. not so much a complete redesign but more of a reworking of the internals. improved screens and so on. also improved 3D tech for a better viewing angle.

thye needs a bigger dpad and biggers buttons that are a bit further away from each other. this is the only thing that is needed.
