So I'm getting the new Xenoblade chronicles for 3ds and read that it's a huge download and that I probably need a new SS card. If I get the physical cartridge isntead of the download, will it use less storage/memory? (Apologies for being relatively dumb...)

yes, since the game is in the cartridge. Your SD card will just be used to put in save files and maybe update patches

@glong_22: I recommend getting the cartridge, i have nothing against digital downloads as they are kinda sweet, you cant really lose them or break them, but i still like the physical even more cause you can show them off easier and their worth more money. Its weird, i wish we could install our games and have the best of both worlds.

Taken in consideration that both cost pretty much the same I would purchase the physical copy without thinking it too much leaving to the SD card the job of saving files.

Since someone brought it up, I've been wondering: what exactly gets saved on the 3DS vs. the SD card vs the game cartridge itself?

I have a 4gb SD card and have no idea what gets saved to that and what is on the cartridge itself since when you buy a used game you can see someone else's save file on it.

I hope you have the New 3DS, cause you said you were getting it for your 3DS....you didn't specify you had the New 3DS, cause it's only for the NEW 3DS lol.

Physical: save datas are on SD card (while the game is on the physical cartridge)
Digital: game and save datas are on the SD card
Reletive to how much space they need: Digital > Physical
I suggest physical
