Just wondering what the community here thought was the best fighter? I'm looking into buying another fighter for the 3DS (I already own SSFIV 3D Edition) but I'm not sure which to pick up. I'm not a huge fighting guy beyond the Capcom games, but I'm interested in investing time in another company's series of fighting games.

Dead or Alive: Dimensions, Tekken 3D Prime Edition and BlazBlue are all $29.99 at the moment and I can find most of those relatively easy. I've never played DoA or BlazBlue before, the last time I played Tekken was Tekken 5 through a rental.

Any help would be appreciated :P.

Go to the Games Recommendation thread, I'm reporting this.
Go with Tekken, 41 characters that are somewhat familiar and 60 FPS, it seems the most fun, and I enjoyed it on my friend's 3DS.

Also, why is there no Games Recommendation thread? Can I make one?
I'd say DoA: D is the best one. It's a shame it didn't sell much though (least from what I heard). Though to tell the truth the only other fighter game I have played was SSF:3D edition, or what ever it was called.

Dead or Alive: Dimensions, by far. Though its DLC type costume trickle was ridiculous. Not sure if they're still dishing them out day by day over spot pass.

There is a game recommendation thread, but it's not stickied since this board doesn't get a lot of traffic to begin with - so we encourage threads that start discussions still. Which series is better for a newbie? I've only really played Tekken a little bit, not extensively and never DoA. Are they easy to get into?

I find DoA: D, atleast when compared to SSF on the 3DS, to be great for newbies, as this was the first 'fighter' game I have played (not including SSB series) I found it easy to dish out powerful combos, and the visuals are great on this game. With SSF I can hardly do the most basic combos :P.

Haha, I think I just saw your question over on NeoGaf as well. I'd go with DOA. I'm not great at fighting games but the mechanics of Dead or Alive are relatively simple, as are the button combos for reversals - and reversing someone's moves is incredibly satisfying. It also plays really well at 60fps, which is a decent tradeoff as the game's 3D isn't very good (and it drops to 30fps when you turn it on).

Oh really? Seems like most people are telling me to get Dead or Alive: Dimensions. I'll probably try to look for it tomorrow if I get a chance, otherwise probably Monday then. It's not in an EB that's close by so I'll probably have to wait till Monday. No biggie.
Haha, I think I just saw your question over on NeoGaf as well. I'd go with DOA. Yeah, I've been asking around lol. I'm really having a hard time picking. Seems like DoA: Dimensions is the choice. I'm only set on Tekken because of nostalgia I guess, I used to play a lot of Tekken 2 as a kid.

Tekken is probably good too, but I wouldn't know, as I don't own Tekken for the 3DS, nor have I ever played any Tekken games. So I guess I can't really comment on that.

Definetely DoA, it's great to get started on the series. It's a lot of fun, the controls are simple, good graphics, online, etc.

I played Street fighter and DoA. I found Dead or Alive to be much more amusing. The story mode is so convoluted it's ridiculous, but the frenetic pace of combat is really exciting.

Easily Dead or Alive. I have Street Fighter, Dead or Alive, and CN: PTE, and BlazBlue and Dead or Alive is quite easily the best. It's not even hard to pick up and learn to play, but definitely takes some time to perfect the counters and to chain attacks effectively.

Dead or Alive: Dimensions has been my favorite fighter so far on the 3DS still. I think it's perfect. The game has some of the best graphics on the handheld compared to the other fighters, even if it doesn't run at 60 FPS in 3D mode, it still is a solid fighter and I have put many hours in it.

Dead or Alive's campaign mode does a very good job IMO about teaching you how to play the series. It basically is one long tutorial session, and what I did enjoy is that at times the game will try and play the battles out to let you know when to do a certain new move/mechanic it introduced. For example, it may slow the game down a bit and button prompts will appear. They may be telling you "Now you should counter like this!" or "Use this combo to do a stun/counter/etc" depending on what you were learning before the fight. (Most fights start with a small tutorial about the gameplay mechanics like delays, combos, holds, throws, tag throws, etc.)However, if you fail to do it quick enough or incorrectly it will punish you like you should be, so it isn't an instant win always, but it teaches you how to play :P Also in general, DOA's combat is very easy. It's four button combat works perfectly on the 3DS's layout.

Also it's an amalgamation of all DOA games in one, since the storyline spans the entire series (but the story isn't really great anyways, it's mildly amusing at best, but so crazy and weird you'll forget about it.) The online mode is the best one yet IMO and I loved the DLC they made for costumes, but I don't think they are giving that out anymore. It was free via spotpass.

I think Dead or Alive: Dimensions is one of the best 3D fighters currently available on 3DS.

Yeah. This is the first DoA I've played, but it didn't take very long to learn the controls because of story mode.

The training mode is also pretty helpful if you're trying to learn how to use new combos or characters.

I've played a bit of the Chronicle Mode (the story) - it's pretty ridiculous but it's entertaining. The way it teaches you how to play is actually awesome, the mini-tutorials before the fights are helpful and honestly, it seems really easy to play. Also - playing with 3D off is 60FPS and it runs sooooo smoothly. I know people say SSFIV 3D runs 60FPS with 3D off, but I think it runs slightly below that, at least when I look at it, I don't feel that it's 60FPS.

Edit: Just realized SSFIV 3D is only 60FPS when you totally disable 3D from options, turning down the slider doesn't make it 60FPS. I've had the game for over a year and I didn't know this ...

Tekken 3DS and DOA:D. But I prefer Tekken more since it has a smooth framerate even with 3D on, plus it seems to have more depth.

can't wait for super smash.. I hope it controls well. Fighting games are only as good as how well you can control them. As for BlazBlue cs2 for 3ds, there are so many problems with the game in addition to just have a clunky d pad for the game. It's by far my most played 3ds game only because I love BB, but I seriously can NOT recommend BBCS2 on 3ds

Yes, it's BlazBlue CSII, which comes with all 3 of the dlc characters including platinum makoto and valky. It's a shame Extend didn't come to 3ds, but in all honesty, the 3ds port of CSII is a very half assed one. You can read a quick summation of it I wrote here if you'd like http://zfaison.umwblogs.org/2012/04/25/3ds-review-of-blazblue/
