This is totally opinion based. You should make the decision based on what you want and which one YOU think will look better because that would most likely be the console you will be using for years to come. Which one do you like more, which one would fit in with all your gadgets...things like that you should ask yourself. Color was never an issue for me, I could have gotten anything and be happy. I ended up getting a red one because it was way cheaper than all the rest.
I prefer red to black, although even in all black the XL is kind of...well, it's not the sleek sort of device you want to play around in public everywhere. Go with whatever colour you prefer.
I got the blue last month after a year of waiting, didn't think they'd release black now. I'm fine with it, its black where it counts (lol) on the inside anyway.
I would have preferred the black model tho. I won't change to black since the color isn't super important. I'd rather save my last 4 system transfers for possibly another 3DS redesign or the 3DS's successor
