Best to leave your settings on 576i. 480P has strange colours and artifacts. it just doesn't work. I compared over and over. And my screen ahs no trouble displaying progressive scan.... Thanks Ninty!! We got screwed over again. They didn't make a 576P like on dvdv's. No progressive scan for Europe. (not good quality anyway...) . every day Nintendo is pissing me off more and more. EDIT: the component cables are still of good use for better colours, black values, etc.. just not for progressive scan...

why? I bought component cables for progressive scan and better image quality... I can't have both though. Don't you think that's kinda ridiculous?

yea, but there's no need to get upset.
just play in 480i, that's what I do. it looks nice with the rgb cable

& don't you play on a projector anyway?? I remember you having a projector

and can you play the vc games with component cables? i remember reading that it wouldn't work because signals etc.

& if you have artifacts your Wii might be damaged. I dunno why, but it seems having artifacts are becoming quite a standard these days. Several people on the forums seems to have encountered this problem.

it looks okay with component cables and i'm having lots of fun. THIS is the problem though: PAL countries can not have a decent 480P resolution. Many people buy expensive component cables for that. So we can not have progressive scan. Not that nintendo warns us for that.. they just don't say anything and hope nobody finds out. Yes, i play games on a projector, but mostly i playWii games on a 32 inch hd tv cause on the projector you only see jaggies :-P.... But it effecs both. On th projector it just becomes more appearent. I won't let it get in the way of me having fun withj the Wii, don't worry. But that doesn;t make it okay.

Well, could be, but i only see these artifacts when i put it in 480P mode.. not in 576i mode. Colours get slightly more magenta too (grey areas more reddish)

but why aren't you playing in 480i?
if you check one of the manuals which came with one of the Wii games....it says

this game support 480i, it will make the game run smoother. it's the speed the game was supposed to run in, which is was built for.

then it says, if you've an RGB cable, you'll get less flicker and better colors.

then it says if you've a component cable you can enjoy 480p which will give an even sharper image.

so, 576i seems to be the worst you can play games in. considering most games are made in Japan, in Japan they use 480i, so games are built for 480i.
