Get the component cables. It's the only way you can play 480p. The Wii won't allow you to select 480p unless the component cables are plugged in anyway. So you're stuck with 480i for now.

Yep. Do try and get the cables though, they make a difference especially on a bigger HD T.V.

480i sucks. That's the resolution of standard definition tv. It takes 480 lines of video, but only alternates 240 at a time. It does it fast enough that you don't really notice, but in 480p it sends all the lines at once so the picture is smoother. A 480p image doesn't require as much stretching from your hdtv so it'll look much better.

Why are there so many threads on this?

Do you want to do it right or do you want to do it wrong, that's it

If you have an HDTV and you don't have component cables you're doing it wrong

Seconded. I have the component cables, and I can safely say that they are worth the 10$ if you own an HDTV.

I'm going VGA to my computer monitor, and it looks AMAZING. But Components just as good for the Wii.

My Wii is hooked up to a 48 inch HDTV I believe via component cables. Some of the games look surprising nice in a slightly better than Standard output (SMG, MKW, etc.) So if you are playing it on a decent sized HDTV then I would say they are worth it, but otherwise a Wii still plays just fine on a SDTV.

You can get them at amazon.com for less than $10 or at this place http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10830&cs_id=1083001&p_id=3566&seq=1&format=2 . Its even less than $10 with shipping. At stores the cheapest you'll find them is $15.

I have yet to run into a wal-mart and I live in NYC.
