To put a DS in standby, you just close the DS. And Super Mario 64 is one of the only games I recall that actually did something when you put the DS in standby, but I still use it all the timeShmig
No, not only Super Mario 64 DS. On Yoshi's Island you hear Yoshi's voice and on Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin you hear a coffin closing... Creepy... Anyway, I totally use that feature and it's awesome. It did exist on Gba, but it was only a software function, thus not all of the games had it. And yes, I do also forget at times that closing the DS lid will do you no good if you are playing a Gba game.

In New Super Mario Bros, when you close it you will hear Mario saying "Goodbye" and when you open it again he will say "It's 'a me, Mario!" I love the standby feature. Sometimes I'll use it while watching TV (when commercials come on), these days, commercial breaks are 8-10 minutes long! I'm not exactly paitent. :D
