I have always been a nintendo fan, and I own a game cube.  I have been listening to everyone talk about how cool the Wii is and its got me thinking maybe i want one.  I can not see anything that I would really like to play on the wii right now except super paper mario.  I also already own all the cross platform games on my 360 so those games are out because i am not buying two of the same game.  Wii sports looks cool and so does Wii play but those alone I don't know if i would put out the money for a wii.  I have the new zelda game on game cube also.  I kind of want to get a wii but I do not want to just let it sit around collecting dust.  I am not a huge gamer because I have college and a faimly but my wife and son like to play games as much as I do.  If anyone thinks of a good reason to buy it now, i might do that, or maybe I should wait awhile on it.    It would help to know if it will have games my son may like to play, as he plays alot of game cube.  He's five, but kind of good at games he's beaten a few of the games we have on game cube like lego starwars 1 and 2, sonic heros, and super smash bros.    I just don't want to impulse buy and have buyers regret.

If you are worried about good games, there are a bunch of good ones coming out this year. If there are any that you like, you should wait until they are released then pick up a Wii. By then they should be easier to find.

Don't buy it. If you think you are going to have buyers regret, you will.

Dont be a wimp, buy the Wii j/k. I doubt that you will regret especially since your a casual gamer, and your family is as well. Trust me you'll all fall in love with Wii Sports, than you can get other games that you can play with your family, like Warioware, Rayman, Wii Play, and Mario Party 8. Then there are many great titles(exclusives) coming out over the next few months and dont forget about the new Smash Brothers, Mario, and Metroid you wont find those anywhere else.

wii is the best family console though, and as you said you have a wife and son, so picking up some games they might like, like rayman or warioware, couldnt hurt and might actually make some evenings more fun. there are also many games coming out to look forward to, sonic, ssx blur, trauma center(not for your son, though :D ) paper mario, mario party 8, metroid prime 3, super mario galaxy, super smash brothers brawl, no more heroes, sadness, guitar hero....and then there are also all the games that are not announced yet. so i dont think there is too much of a reason to be afraid.

The Wii had one of the best, if not the very best, launch support as far as games in the history of the console.
There's tons of games right now and more coming this year.

In the end though if you're asking others to make a decison for you then you shouldn't get it until you can do it yourself.

No offense, but you don't sound like someone with a wife and kid.

I'm 30 and wasn't sure about getting the Wii until I lucked out and saw one in a store.  I bought it without thinking, wondering if it would be a mistake.  Now I'm glad I did because it ismuch cheaper than the next closest console and with Zelda, Wii Sports, and Trauma Centre, it is a blast to play either by myself or with others.

You may have Zelda for GC, but there aren't going to be any more GC games coming out from now on.  So if you want another Zelda, the mario titles, metroid, etc. then you will want a wii.  Tons of devs are jumping onto the Wii bandwagon and a  ton of titles are guaranteed to come out in the future...many of which won't be playable on other consoles.

Finally, if you don't have older games youc an always introduce your kids to the beauty of older mario titles which are still some of the best games anyone can play.

Just wait.  After MP:3, SSBB, Blur, Mario Galaxy, etc. come out, you'll be able to make a better decision.  I really wanted a Wii so I got one and I love it.  If you aren't sure if you want one, who knows if its worth the $250+.

If you can't make up your mind, then you should hold off.  Wiis are still rare.  Let someone who really wants one buy one.

Aside from Zelda (which I should have got for my Gamecube)  There is no reason to get one now except for the VC games, but you might have some of those laying around anyway.

If you're actually worried then just wait.  By the end of the year there'll be more than a few games that you'll want to play.  So just wait until they're released.  Super Paper Mario, No More Heroes, Dewy's Adventure, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Super Smash Bros. Brawl... and that's a lot isn't it? :P

Take my advise and wait a few months.  I purchased a Wii a few weeks ago and while I enjoyed playing Zelda everything else seems pretty crappy, and yes that includes Wario Ware. I am by no means a fan boy, but am a gamer that likes variety. The Wii has a tremendous amount of potential but its really looking like its headed for the same fate as the gamecube. The Nintendo oiriginals such as Mario, Zelda, and Metroid are fun and probably the main reason I got the system, however, 3rd party support once again is what could hurt the system. Several 3rd party developers keep making the comment that Wii is kiddie and they will be making mostly family friendly games for the system. Nothing is wrong with games being family friendly, but they can get old. Hopefully, in the long run developers will see that its not just kids that own a Wii but adults as well. I am just not as excited about the future game line up as some of you.

^Wii sports is fun but not worth spending $250 for. Wii sports is more like an enhanced demo.

Just wait on buying it then. If games that you want start coming out later, then go for it.

Go to a store and try it out first. Usually places like GameStop and EB Games has consoles set up. Play it and then decide. Otherwise, wait and see what happens.

All I have to ask is have you played it? If you play it you'll love it. It's fun and it's a different experience than the regular videogame consoles. Trauma Center: Second Opinon is a cool game to play on Wii if you want another game to play besides Wii Sports

Mar. 5th - Mario Party 8
Mar. 13th - Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07

My advice would be to get a Wii now. There's no reason to wait. There are a few great games out there right now that are fun for the whole family as well as not available anywhere else. Games like Excite Truck, Rayman, and Elebits are all fun games. I dare you to play Rayman without laughing out loud and having a blast playing multiplayer. Plus you get Wii Sports for free, so that's just an added bonus. Don't forget about the Virtual Console, which is an excellent way to introduce your son to the classics that you grew up with, as well as re-introduce yourself. The Wii has only just started, and it's potential is tremendous. Although the majority of must-have games are yet to be released, there's still plenty to have fun with which is more than worth the $250 price tag. I say go for it, I don't think you'll regret it.

I know how you feel as I too wondered what games I would buy if I bought the wii. However, I believe that future games will be very interesting. I can't wait for Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Metroid Prime 3. I think that they will make some very good games in the future that will be strictly Nintendo. It would be wise to wait until you are sure of what games you would buy though, to avoid regretting the purchase.

Thanks for the help,  I think I will wait till at least this summer then to get one and see what games are comeing out.  Everyones opinions helped.  I have never played one but it looks fun, i can never find a working one to try out in any store near me.   Also, for the guy who said that I did not sound like i had a wife and child, how do I sound like I don't have a wife and child?  I am a husband and parent while still being a little young, i'm 24, my faimly just plays video games. Your comment about the VC is true, the classics would be good for my son, I don't let him play any of the violent bloody M games we have today.  I play games like gears of war and COD3 after he goes to bed,  i love multiplayer.

Nintendo fans can't live without the big ones coming up. I'm talking about Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Pikmin 3 (there will be one, of course), Smash Bros. Brawl and the Mario Kart that is coming..

well, the system is compatible with gamecube games, so you could buy it and when you find a new game coming out that you want to play, you'll already have the system. on the other hand if you wait long enough, you may be able to get one after a price cut. but with how cheap the system is already, it may be awhile. really just a question of how much you want to pay for the system, but consider possible virtual console games your son may enjoy.
