A question about Bowser's Inside Story (Possible Spoilers)

OK, so I got into the battle system, and the game says that there will be little hints that tell you who the enemy will attack, either mario or luigi. My question is, is that important? I mean i counterattack the moment the enemy goes toward me, the little enemy delays a little before attacking, and that seems to be all i need. I never really paid attention to the hints, i just saw the direction the enemy is attacking. Is that all i will need?

It's not all that essential, but helpful. Some enemies that you jump to dodge, you could jump with the two brothers to pull it off, for example. Others you could counterattack with both at the same time. But there's some enemies out there that you'll need to use the hints, because they'll begin to timing his attacks, or attack above you, just in case you try to dodge.

And there are points when certain enemies can attack both bros with one attack, but at separate times because of the nature of the attack, so noting these subtle hints can really save your skin at times.
