So, of course you all love SMG2, and it's a mario game, so I assume it is really fun. Kirbys Epic Yarn looks damn fun, i'm not gonna lie. Both these games are primarily convention controls, and leave motion controls behind some. Doesn't it seem odd that your best game, and the best game coming out of e3 for it.. use mostly conventional controls? It makes me wonder how many other awesome games like that they could have released had they not focused on motion control. Not trying to troll or whatever, i'm just pondering. Watching KEY actually made me wish I had a wii a little, it just looked so fun, as I said, Mario is always good.

I don't know what you're trying to say but as long as the controls aren't bad I'm all for it.

Simply put, some games are better suited for traditional controls, and some work better with motion. It just so happens these two work better with traditional controls.

mario has motion-only in many of its best moments (fluzzard FTW), kirby WILL use motion, in case you don't know, and skyward sword is practically motion only.

My friend was at E3 and played Kirby, he said it barely uses motion controls. Really only when your in some kinda tank form, you tilt it, thats pretty much it. I don't know what skyward sword is.

I like SMG series the way it is with its motion controls implemented for certain uses. It just wouldn't be a mario game if you were limited to full motion control. It's not that kind of game where it would make sense.

"limited to full motion control" doesn't that say it all? I just wonder what kind of awesome games we could have had from nintendo this gen had they not decided to go full blown motion controls.

i was at E3 too, and yes that's true. skyward sword is the new zelda game. you use items with motion, you attack with motion, etc.

SMG2 uases motion controls wonderfully though. Kirby doesn't nee it.

Motion controls are a tool to help devlopers. They are not a toy to be shoved into every game.

And skyward sword will soon be the best game on the wii, and it uses heavy motion control.

Motion controls = replacement of a button.

SMG2 does just that. Some of the basic gameplay mechanics are motion or IR based, don't understand what you are talking about.

WM+ is the one that is 1:1.

In some cases, it's actually more fun to flick your wrist than tap a button :P Feels really satisfying to spin Mario with a wrist flick.

As others have touched on, Super Mario Galaxy uses motion controls quite often throughout the game. The spin attack and activating various other functions throughout the game requires use of the Wii Remote's motion functionality, not to mention the pointer for collecting Star Bits. Sure, these things don't dominate the game's control scheme, but they do add a fun feel to the game that wouldn't feel the same with a setup that went exclusively with 'conventional' controls, and that's fair from a game that most would considered a 'conventional' game otherwise.

As for Kirby's Epic Yarn, I don't know enough about to game to say how it uses the Wii Remote's functionality, but I hope that there are some parts where the Wii Remote's functions are at least used.

anyway, ano to the topic. you just cant use motion controls on every game....as you can take a look at the vast amounts of shovelware that does. if it makes you feel better, the bundled in game utilized motion controls in every way :P

Motion controls isn't what makes 'shovelware,' wanting to make the quickest buck possible at the expense of game design and functionality does.

im not saying just because the game has motion controls makes it shovelware, but most of the poorly executed motion controled games have been shovelware.

i think were pretty much on the same page, i just didnt explain myself as well as i couldve.

You have somewhat of a point. When the wii came out I said a lot of the same stuff but at the end of the day fun games are fun games and it doesn't matter if it uses motion control or not. True it is Nintendo's selling point and without the motion controls it does seem like a GC. If you love Nintendo franchises then it really doesn't matter, Punch Out, Kirby, Donkey Kong Country, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, Wario Land and so forth are all fun and only on the Wii, so there is not anything you can do. Some games are traditional with waggle added in because they were supposed to be GC games but were moved over. Paper Mario is one of them. Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn was supposed to be on GC as well but was moved over as well, this game does not include motion control.

There are fun games that use motion control.

Warioware

Metroid Prime 3 or trilogy

Zack and Wiki

Mario Kart

Excitebots

Nights

Battalion wars 2

Some people like Dead Space extraction and House of the Dead Overkill.

No more heroes uses it for super moves.

I would say get the system. You can pick quite bit of good games for cheap. The Mario games are still full price despite being out for 2 years but that is because they sell all the time. Zack and Wiki is probably around 15 bucks if that. No more heroes has gotten cheap as well. The second one came out not too long ago and that is like what $25 or something? Maramusa the Demon Blade is a cool game even though that is waggle like.

Yeah they're a lot of good games with motion controls, although if a game doesn't need them it shouldn't be forced. Besides the best thing about the Wii is the IR pointer and that's used all the time. Motion control is great and gets the most attention but the IR pointer is the truly revolutionary thing about the Wii. Plus it has a reset button unlike every other current console out there.
