Basically it had the same controls as OoT but had less dungeons and more side missions and was in a land called Termina not Hyrule.

If they do create a similar game I hope they don't have it timed. It had advantages and disadvantages to game.

Oh yeah, i would totally buy that game. The whole 3 day loop thing was a great addition to the game, and adde replay value. I enjoyed going back and fighting the bosses again and doing some of the quests.

Plus, the Fierce Diety was the best thing ever pretty much.

I would like to see some elements of Majora's Mask incorporated into a new Zelda game, such as some of the masks, the impending sense of doom, and the wealth of sidequests to complete, but I don't want a true Majora's Mask sequel. I am not a fan of the timed gameplay.

You make it sound so dull. ;)

Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game to date, so I'll elaborate a little more.

It was the direct sequel to Ocarina of Time on the N64. As you know, Link returns to being a child at the end of Ocarina of Time, so Majora's Mask features Link as a kid who wanders into a portal to another dimension. It doesn't involve Zelda or Hyrule in anyway, but in all honesty, that doesn't detract from the game at all, unless the only reason you play Zelda games is for the on-going storyline.

One aspect of the gameplay that is new from Ocarina of Time is the ability to use masks to transform into other things. I won't spoil it for anybody, but you get to transform at will into various other familiar species, each with their own special talents. This actually adds a lot to the game.

Majora's Mask only has four dungeons. That sounds pathetic, but they're easily the most creative and complex dungeons in the Zelda series. The dungeon designers really went all out for this game, doing things with dungeons that had never been done before and haven't been done since. You'll know what I'm talking about when you play the game.

In order to explain the greatness of the side missions, I need to explain the basic premise of the game. Termina will be destroyed in three days if Link doesn't do something to stop it. Time passes no matter what when you're playing the game, so the only way for Link to save Termina is to observe and accomplish things in those three days, then travel back in time to the first day again. So while the game is "timed," you basically have an infinite amount of time to work with since you can always teleport back to the first day.

With all that said, the side missions are mostly what make the game so great (mostly). There is a central town in the game that is full of people actually doing things. All of them play a role in some side quest or even the main quest. You can talk to them, figure out what they're up to, and know what their problems are. Then apply the Groundhog's Day effect - travel back in time so that you can help these people. You have a notebook that helps you keep track of all the people who need help. It's a lot of fun... more fun than it probably sounds.

Any Zelda fan should play Majora's Mask. It doesn't necessarily follow the same formula as the other games, but all of the elements that are present are extremely well done.

It wasn't my favorite (probably because I was little when I got it on launch day, and that moon scared me :(, also it was timed), but it was really good. The gameplay, and the graphics were just really good. I didn't like it as much as OoT, but I still suggest getting it.
I hope they make a second one sometime soon :).

I like the idea of making a zelda game that strays from the main concept, add something cool like the mask concept(but not copy it) of course we should keep at leastzelda in it but not gannon. Just create a new antagonist and series of puzzles. Of course making a game is no cakewalk...

You're wrong.

It was a different step in a genre that desperately needed it, and after the not-so-great reception it got from fans, things just went right back to the way things were: the same.

Don't get me wrong, I still like LoZ games, but for Christ sake. All action-adventures are just cookie-cutter copies of Zelda's style of gameplay. Miyamoto took a step in the right direction, and people just tore it apart.

This is why FPS's are all the same too, people will never try something new. And then people go around saying "Why do they make so many FPS's/Action-adventures? They're always the same!"

Yeah. Because you complain whenever they try something different.

I think they should make a new majora's mask just because it's such a different game. It should be its own series.

BTW, it's my favorite game of all time. I love how the final boss is accessible at any time. That and skull kid/ Majora is a great villian. Even though all that is true I find huge faults with the game.

That one poster mentioned the movie 'groundhog day'. Majora's Mask has a similar thing to it, but not nearly enough imo. The time travelling mechanic made majora's mask character's more alive then any game before or after (because it allows characters to have their own schedules and agendas), but it isn't exploited as much as it could have. I was expecting more from the soldiers and contruction workers. I wanted something to creep me out like how the movie GHD got. Again, MM had a piece of that, but it could have had more.

The notebook has a huge missed oppurtunity. --VERY MINOR SPOILERS-- I thought that once I got all the things done in the book, that I would have to do them all in one 3 day sequence, ending with me beating Majora again. That wouldn't be possible though, because to do that you would have to leave out saving that old lady from the theif. Instead, each problem solved gets counted even if its buried in a cancelled timeline.

Anyway, these are problems that show how great the game is. The game is great at raising your expectations. The possibilites for a sequal haunt me at times, since I'm a creative person and the game is absolutely begging for a sequel that solves the original's flaws and fully flesh out the great time travelling mechanic. I dont know why most people dont seem to agree. Too hard maybe?

That would be so sweet. With the Wii's much, much better hardware than the N64, they could improve uppon all the flaws you mentioned. Imagine if it was set over 3 days of a really big event like a war or something happeneing... each time you did it different ways the outcome was entirely different. There could be hundreds of people all interlinked in possible quests and stuff, instead of about 50. And also your idea, GunSmith1_basic was really good, how the final section of the game was a perfect 3 day sequence, where with all the item's you've got, you can go through solving everyones problems and finish the game. Oh, and multiple endings would be great.

I think Links Awakening is another game that doesn't involve Zelda, Hyrule and Gannon. Anyhow, MM is a much darker story line than OOT. And like some fellow posters pointed out it revolves around observing and completing quests during the three day period. I recall some dungeons you would have to travel back and forth between days to complete them. Anyhow, the world is much bigger than Hyrule and there were a ton of caves and locations to explore. So there were technically more than four dungeons.

I don't know the age of most of you here, but the way the game plays is like Chameleon Kid on Sega Genesis. Different masks give you different powers and make different things happen. From first glance it seems like a OOT rip off, but it is not. It stands on it owns and I'd even say that its better than OOT since the game has a richer story and of course gameplay improved upon that of OOT. Zelda TP seemed to got inspired by the dark story of MM. Which is a good thing and a good change for the series imo. Its one of the Zelda games I enjoyed most.

Goron_Link

I'm old enough to have played and beaten evey zelda when they were originally released. I love the Zelda series...and yet I've never liked Majora's Mask. I even replayed all the Zelda tites in the Zelda collection for GC when it came out, and tried to finally beat MM but just couldn't.

So I really don't care.

majora's mask was my first zelda game and at first it took me a while to figure out how the game worked because i had never played an action adventure game like zelda before. it is definitely the most difficult zelda both in combat and puzzles but you get an enormous sense of satisfaction out of beating it. i would definitely want a second because it is a fresh breathe of air for the series.

No, I wouldn't. Don't get me wrong, Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game ever, but I'm sure a new one would probably ruin it and the story wouldn't make much sense probably. I'd love a game to continue where it left off though.

That doesn't add up. Wind Waker has the highest percentage of "boredom" out of any Zelda game, unless you like sailing for ten minutes straight without actually doing anything. I agree that it's a great game, but some of the sailing is just ridiculous. I remember leaving the room sometimes and letting Link sail solo since my destination was halfway across the map.

I can't see why Majora's Mask is so underrated. It is easily my favorite LoZ and quite possibly my favorite game of all time.

People complain about the time system and the sidequests; to me those are the two best qualities of this game. And the story line (main and side stories) are so deep and enthralling.

Would I like to see a second Majora's Mask-like game? Hell yes.

That's why they can't duplicate MM. Just go that way instead of old Hryule and Ganondorf. As well as more side missions and less dungeons. Also in MM they actually constantly continued to use their expansion of weapons instead of only use them in one dungeon

[QUOTE="Goron_Link"]Basically it had the same controls as OoT but had less dungeons and more side missions and was in a land called Termina not Hyrule.JordanElek

It doesn't necessarily follow the same formula as the other games, but all of the elements that are present are extremely well done.

dude ur just like me majoras mask is my favorite loz game too

Gah, not Majora's Mask that game was HARRRRDDD! And the time was stupid, and you had a dumb sword, and you were little, and it was hard, and Guards annoyed the heck outta me, and it was no match to ocarina of time being the bestzelda game ever, however masks were really good, thats what saved the game from failing, oh and skull kid roked.

I'm surprised that so many people have good things to say about MM besides a few. It is an awsome game but I didn't know that it was peoples Loz favs.
