I need some help with this. I finally got a wireless connection for my Wii and lately I've been leaving it on Standby to receive messages. But one day I noticed that my system was hot from being on standby all night. It needed to be cooled down and I don't have a fan to put next to it. I'm lucky my system still works. Is this a problem? Has anyone else noticed this when your system is on standby? Any suggestions? Let me know. Thanks for your time.

yes, it does get pretty warm but dont worry to much. Although it is summer now and the room my Wii is in I cant open the window because someone can easily come in :(, but if the Wii gets really HOT, turn off WC24.

When your Wii gets overheated you'll start to seee artifacts on the screen.

It's the wi-fi receiver in the Wii that gets hot. because the Wiii is so compact this reciver is just next to the important stuff in the machine. A few people have had overheating happening to them. (artifacts have started to appear on the screen.)

If you read on forums or whatever, when these people have called the Nintendo service, this problem has usually been identified as being a problem with the production of the machine & using the WiiConnect24 in standby mode a longer period of time.

It probably is safe to leave the machine in WiiConnect24 standy, but leaving the machine in standby for several days & weeks without using it, just making it stand untouched & getting warm will probably damage it after a while. Dust gets collected in the machine and it gets warm.

There's external fans you can buy and connect to your Wii, there's a really nice "stand"fan. Which just replaces the stand you Wii sits in. So the fan's basically unnoticeable.

Same thing here, my wii gets really hot in standby mode. I thought it wasn't supposed to use a lot of energy in standby mode but it seems like it is

WiiConnect24 (orange light) uses 10W
if you don't have WiiConnect24 in standby mode (red light) the Wii uses 1W

When you're using your Wii (in the menus & playing games) it uses 17W

The energy builds up. Also it's a defect in some of the units. Hence why Nintendo replaces the units for free.

When I noticed this I turned the Wiiconnect straight off. As hot as it gets, you may as well just leave the durn thing completely on. at least that way the fan is blowing. With that huge ass external power block the thing come with, I'm shocked it gets that hot.

I want that one, but afraid to wait for it to come out!

There actually is another, similar one available at cicuit city...  but it's not as nice and doesn't lean the Wii back like the regular stand does.

from what i have heard leaving your wii on standby, it could damage the GPU and cause some spots on your screen or something, but i leave my on standby connection anyway, done it since launch have not had any problems. but i might turn it completely off once the summer gets going and it will be hot inside.

No, the attachment fans are powered by the USB ports and run all the time, whether the console is on or off. It's been pretty warm here the past couple days (upper 70's), and my Wii has been worryingly warm on standby so I went and got the intec one pictured above. Reduces the temperature considerably.... but it's pretty freakin' loud. I'll probably just use it until the fan stand from gamestop comes out and then get that one.

Also pre-ordered Super Paper Mario :P

With summer coming I think it's a good idea. Though the Intec one is loud, it's DEFINITELY keeping my Wii much cooler. It may be a bit noisy doing it's job, but it does it well.

When I discovered how hot the wii got in standby I turned it off completly the only time I leave it on in standby is for a few hours at a time when I plan on using the weather or news channels. Other then that how many people actually send or recieve messages through the wii? because I am pretty sure most people don't sit there waiting for the blue light to come on.  And If you do seriously consider taking up a hobby >.> Other then that I don't think it is worth it if it shortens the game consoles life span. BEcause I would rather have a game console wear out from me playing it like my xbox and not when its on standby or not being touched for hours.

I know Ninty built the Wii to stand up to being on Standby mode whenever not in use, but after trying it for a few days I've just been turning the Standby connection off everytime before I turn off the console and turning it back on in the options anytime I need to use a Channel that requires it... As long as that Fan Stand turns out not to be a bad product I'll definitely be getting one so I can start leaving her on standby again. XD

True, if you want to go through the hassle of sending it in, waiting for them to fix it... etc. The fans run $15-20.... it's not like it's going to cost you a week's wages. That's what the PS3 is for.
