question:

1. can i use NORMAL Stereo Speakers and set my Sound Setting on Wii on Surround? (just plain 2 speakers/a pair of sony speakers)

2. should my normal TV speakers or Normal Speakers should be set to Surround too? or its okay JUST to set it on my Wii?

3. if i can use it (coz if i switch it on surround on wii i can still here it right? ^^ yeah and i tried it already =p) will i lose some parts of the sound? i mean i will not hear some of the sound effects or something?

4. can i still feel the Surround Sound even im using my Normal Television Speakers/Normal Stereo Speakers? (the normal speakers i mean is a VERY old Sony Cassette and CD Player but its BIG ^^)

1. No I don't think so as you will lose most of the sound

2. set them on surround but best to have a set ofsurround speakers not nicam or virtual surround speakers

3. I have already sed on q 1

4. How do u feel sound apart from if it is load!

Hope that sort of helps :D

If you set it to surround with no surround sound system, it sounds just like stereo, so you might as well keep it on stereo.

You need a reciever or a TV that supports Dolby Pro Logic II to use the Wii's surround sound.

I'm sure you can but I can't really think of a reason why you would, 2 speakers can't make surround sound, you should probably stick with stereo.

my understanding of that FAQ is still saying that you need a digital receiver with the right decoder (for the Wii it's Dolby Pro Logic II, but any one you buy now will come with 5.1 Digital Surround or higher). Do you have a digital receiver?

Besides with only 2 speakers you aren't getting surround, it's jut putting the 4 channels of sound and they're coming out of 2 speakers.

i dont have digital receiver yet..

- but umm.. what if i buy a Speaker (let's say a 5.1 speakers) and it has Dolby Digital or Dolby Pro Logic II logo on its box.. does that mean i dont need to buy a digital receiver?

- can that speaker (with Dolby Logos) can give/use/feel the Surround sound for wii?

- can i find a speaker (5.1) like that at around 300-400$ or 500-600$?

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but I thought this info might be useful to other people too, and I'm fiddling with my own Dolby ProLogic II setup, which is how I found this in the first place ;)

That's right, you need to be able to decode Dolby ProLogic II to actually get the proper surround sound output (and of course the appropriate number of speakers)

Pretty much. Of course by putting the "rear" sounds out-of-phase (that is, playing them a few microseconds off from when the sound actually occurs), it is theoretically possible to fool your ears into thinking something's coming from the rear. However, this basically requires that you be sitting in the perfect spot in the perfect room to actually get that result. [QUOTE="myblameless"]i dont have digital receiver yet.. - but umm.. what if i buy a Speaker (let's say a 5.1 speakers) and it has Dolby Digital or Dolby Pro Logic II logo on its box.. does that mean i dont need to buy a digital receiver?

No, speakers can't decode a signal, they can only output directly what goes into them. To truly decode the Dolby ProLogic II signal, you'll need an appropriate receiver. The logo on those speakers just indicates that they're compatible with DPLII systems.

As I explained above, it's theoretically possible to get "surround" sound out of two speakers, but it's faking it, and conditions have to be just right for it to reall work decently.

Well you can get an STR-DG720 (or STR-DG920 if you're considering upgrading to a hi-def/HDMI home theater system in the future... the 920 can re-encode any analog/digital signal it receives to HDMI, so you only have one cord going to your TV... of course it's $150 more). Add a set of Yamaha NS-SP1800 speakers to the deal and you should be off to a good start. I'd suggest checking PCConnection (www.pcconnection.com) for the receiver, and TigerDirect (www.tigerdirect.com) for the speakers. If you get the STR-DG720 and the speakers I recommended, you'll have yourself a full 5.1 digital surround setup for under $450, shipped. Plus, with the receiver, you'll be able to switch between multiple consoles without needing one of those goofy switch boxes or something! BTW, the reason I suggested PCConnection for the receivers is because I have a friend who works there... and they also have very reasonable shipping rates. PM me if you're interested, and I might be able to cut you a slight discount. No guarantees (it's at her discretion, and she may not be willing to do it for random people on the web), but it's worth a shot :)
