I've been a fan of the Advance Wars games for awhile now and I was wondering if Days of Ruin was alright compared to Dual Strike. Honestly I found Dual Strike more fun of a game and loved the CO switches during the days. Was anyone else slightly disappointed by Days of Ruin compared to Dual Strike?

Yeah look I found that DoR was a bit of a letdown compared to Dual Strike TBH. While the change of setting was refreshing the game just felt like it went backwards for me. They literally stripped the game of most of its modes and only really included a campaign (no hard campaign either), a vs mode and a map builder mode. I suppose one of the reasons the game might've seen quite short to me was that I couldn't use the online features, but even if I could've used them I can't imagine myself playing anyone online due to the long nature of an average advance wars battle.

Don't get me wrong though, I still enjoyed the campaign thoroughly and overall I would probably still rate it an 8 out of 10, but there's no denying it was a letdown compared to Dual strike.

Edit: You also go back to only using 1 co but I personally found this to be a plus. Dual strikes were rediculously cheap IMO.

I did prefer Dual Strike, I seem to remember it having more content/modes and I preferred the CO switches/powers.

I prefer Days of Ruin. I couldn't get back to Dual Strike after playing DoH.

I honestly can't say which game I like more, since I love them both. Dual Strike isn't quite as tough and as such is a bit more fun to play, but I really like the new art style in Days of Ruin, and the fact that the story is darker (characters actually kill each other rather than trading childish insults).

I loved the new modes in Dual Strike, but I love much moe that you can create/download 50 maps and play online with voice chat. The ideal deal is having both.

Yeah, I agree with you. Advance Wars DS was just such a phenomenal game, and Days of Ruin was something of a letdown. It was still a pretty solid game compared to most of the games released on the DS, but it's easily my least favorite of the Advance Wars games. I thought the setting and plot tried too hard to be serious -- the series is better with it's more light-hearted setting that makes the first three games so memorable. Still, it's not a huge deal, just because there's so much freaking content in AWDS that it's hard to really grow bored with it. And in terms of actual gameplay, Advance Wars DS is still quite good.

Well I just resently got Days of Ruin, it's a good game...just a little hard. I'm not the best at stratagy anyway so I guess that might have something to do with it.

DoR is the best Advance wars to date IMO. I had a very hard time actually getting me to buy it though, but I'm glad I did. However, in the other Advance war games I hated the CO powers tipping the strategy so much, so that might be why I liked this one so much. It seemed like strategy was at the front at all times, none of this 'two more hits and I can go postal on the enemy!' stuff. Instead I had to watch myself the whole time. Eventually you get your CO in the war too, and they make a bit of a difference on how you use them, but it was much more passive. I did miss the double battle stuff though as it was kind of fun to have to win both fronts and such... I did like the characters and setting more in DoR though as it didn't play out like a first grade storybook (it was still simplistic and all but not: 'You wanta fight' - 'Ok lets fight' ... ' oh you won. Darn you *shakes fist*') - instead it seemed to point out more about not causing casualties and such. I found DoR a lot easier than DS too seeming I never really had to worry about the computer getting that last lucky hit on me and playing their round/map breaking CO power on me.

DoR is better for me as the new layout is refreshing and those stupid tag powers that ended a map in one turn are gone
