I never got it, in fact I don't recall all this amount of hype over melee. Why are people hyping it up to this extent? It's a simplistic (I'm not saying it's a bad thing) fighter with Nintendo characters, yet poeple are calling it one of the greatest games of all time (without it being released I might add). I remember seeing the trailer for Brawl thinking 'cool, there's a new game in the Smash Brothers series' I had no idea there were people out there crapping their pants over it. And I LOL a little inside when people get excited for the most trivial info released for this game. This is like Halo, or even High School Musical, a seemingly average (or in the case of HSM, annoying) product turns into a phenomenon.

have you seen how much content is in this game?! at least you don't see hundreds of advertisements of SSBB everywhere like what halo 3 did. they had halo everything(t-shirts, sippy-cups, slushy cups, hats, bobble heads, posters, limited edition halo styled console, or helmet or controller). And if you think about it, SSBB isn't hyped that much, you're just used to seeing people talking about it on GAME SITES. at least it isn't on TV(except for commercials mainly in Japan) like the news or talkshows, or billboards, or wherever they can shove it in your face.

EDIT: and of course you see hype over this game on gamesites. where else are you going to hear about this game? like do you ever see an health site forum about dieting bring up the topic of "Super Smash Bros. Brawl?" where else are we going to discuss/hype this game? on GAMESITES.

it's not the pushing buttons that is so great. it is combining a sequence of them in such an order that your opponets melt like butter. that is what is fun.

Whats great is seeing all of your favorite Nintendo characters on one game, being able to play as your favorite, and beating up the ones you hate.

Well super smash bros is a darn fricken awesome game.. it went big especially when it came out on the gamecube.. I don't think it was that big on the n64 but its an excellent game.. but some don't really care for games like SSB but yeah it a masterpiece... other games try to immitate it, but then SSB always comes out on top of those battles...its not really hype its just people showing that they really appreciate the game.. and I will have to admit.. I played the SSBM for MONTHS and never got tired of it... I stopped because I got to the point where the game had no substance and every thing was easy its just Unique

I see how the idea is cool, but I don't think that justidfies the extreme hype around this game for the last year. This game has more hype than Zelda, Galaxy, or any other game in recent memory (with the possible exception of halo 3). It's a good game, but at it's core it's just a nintendo themed mortal kombat.

Never compare Smash Bros. to High School Musical... lol

Well, it turns out that the Smash Bros. series has developed a huge fanbase over the years, and this time around, not just the fans, but even casuals alike are looking foward to this one. I've seen it too. I go to other sites that have nothing to do with videogames. Sometimes out of the blue people might talk about videogames. A lot of times these people hype over SSBB. That's just my speculation.
Brawl is a somewhat simple fighter that casuals can enjoy, and provides loads of skills for hardcore gamers to enjoy. It has addicting gameplay (If many people still play Melee and enjoy it to this day, Brawl appears to have improved in many ways, and added much more content). All that, with all our favorite Nintendo characters/franchises, and a few 3rd-parties aboard, tons of features and content, rewarding gameplay with all the unlockables, online play, and collectables such as trophies and stickers, makes Super Smash Bros. Brawl the best game in its series, and that says a lot, Considering the previous Smash Bros. titles were quite legendary to many alone.

I don't necessarily understand where the hype came from for Halo 3. Maybe it was the advertisements, over a game that didn't change too dramatically since the previous title.
Brawl, has a lot more to offer from the previous title, and I think that's the homerun for most fans right there, since we already loved the series as is from Melee. But now it just keeps getting better.

Melee was a launch game, but it was probably the best multiplayer game for the entire generation, on all three consoles.

for me SSB's was a social game, I played it, my friends played it, part of our status was how good we played the game.

On saturday's there would be about 8 or 9 people all sitting on chairs around our tv playing 2 losers swap out, we'd have team battles, and there was just such an energy with the game, every single day after school growing up, we'd play smash brothers, we'd have matches and talk while we smashed eachother, and when meele came out, we were all over that one as well, it was beauitful, because everyone recignized the characters, the fighting system was simple to grasp, but so hard to master, that sinking time into learning to fight better paid off in the end.

The main thing i'm excited for with this game is the addition of online play, since I ran out of competition, and couldn't afford to travel hundreds of miles to go to some convention or tournement. This addition of online play is what rekindles the spark in me to play again. There's just something fun about sitting around playing smash brothers with a group of your good friends, laughing it up, while beating eachother up.

Now that I'm older, and we've all moved onto university etc, we can't possibly do that anymore, but with online play we can conference call and play smash together like the old days!

1) Nintendo all stars cross over game. There's no other series where Nintendo characters do this. 2) It doesn't play like other fighting games. If it did, I probably would not like it. Melee was awesome. Its been 7 years since the last game and people are dying for a new one. Most major franchises do not go that long without a sequel, hence other games are typically not as hyped.

i gotta agree though i'll admit admit i havent played the last one, this appears to be a lotta hype for just a fighting game. dont get me wrong the graphics look good bout it certainly doesnt look groundbreaking in any way. it aint like the first mgs, half life or mario 64. mybe i'll be proved wrong but just think people are hyping this game up to a level it cant possibly live up to. 3 words, the phantom menace!!!!

Have you been following all the game updates on the Dojo site? There's so much more depth and awesome stuff in this game than Melee. If there's anything that's helping the hype behind the game it's online.

I didn't really like Melee, but I'm not a huge fan of fighting games in general. Hype is what makes these forums exist, at least to a certain extent.
