I had not really noticed this until I when to a HMV recently and was looking at their games section - both the other two platforms have their 'greatest hits' or platinum hits' - yet the Wii - still does not have their 'players choice' titles.

I mean I know some games are still selling well - but some games might benefit more by getting a slight price reduction and a 'players choice' box.

Basically the Player's Choice titles are titles that have already sold well that drop in price.

I don't know if the reason why we haven't seen any of these is because the Wii is still selling so well - that even most popular software sells at a steady enough rate that the Players Choice titles aren't needed yet.. or what.

I really don't know but I find it a bit odd, considering last generation with the GameCube we already had those titles available.

So what do you guys think? Why haven't we seen any players choice titles? Any ideas? When do you expect we will start seeing players choice titles and do you think they'll still be called 'players choice' or will they be called something different to appeal to the Wii's new audiences?

I think the Player's Choice games are one of the biggest failures in the history of the company

Nintendo doesn't have any "timely" software. Everything they sell has as much significance in it's 5th year on the market as it has in it's first. It doesn't make much sense to purposely take on a price cut when people will gladly pay full retail for the games.

The Wii doesn't produce games that look that much different then it's last gen counterpart so even it's "older" games don't look older, they all look the same. I think you can see this perfectly with the rereleasing of the Gamecube games. They don't look that different from Wii games so they decided to get more scratch from them.

Last gen Nintendo made the mistake of cutting the prices on their games when people were still willing to pay full, they learned from it this generation

I agree with Jay. The best selling games (on Wii) would not benefit from a price drop. The old "Player's Choice" model was no good. The new "Keep selling at full price" model is doing very well for them.

When I had a GCN, I got Metroid Prime and Soul Calibur 2 for $20, and also Smash Bros Melee for $30,new copies at wal mart too.

I would've paid a full $50 forall three of them.These wereall Player's Choice titles

There would be just too many player choice games on the wii if Nintendo uses the same criteria of the GCN games.

It's likely because lots of shovelware out there already sell well at full price, why lower it? Also it did take the GC some time to even start their Player's Choice lineup didn't it? Regardless I'm curious too, but it seems some stores already lower the price of games low enough if you look around.

That pretty much explains why 'Players Choice' hasn't been introduced for Wii games yet. Nintendo simply see no reason to do so. Lowering the price when their games are still selling extremely well at full price, would be a bad business move. Simply because their making huge amounts of money off of their games at full price, lowering it now would be pointless seeing as no one seems to mind paying full price for their games.

Yeah, but how many of those games are from Nintendo? I'm gonna guess none. Which is precisely why Nintendo hasn't introduced 'Players Choice,' they simply don't see no reason to do so. But just because Nintendo hasn't done that, doesn't mean that publishers can't lower the price of their games themselves. They could lower the price after a few months on the market at full price, if they wanted to. That way they can still make some off the game at full price, and then lower the price and continue to make money off of 'em, as cheaper games could potentially make them more money.

Shovelware doesn't sell well though -- there are rare occasions where some have had success, but overall, most of it doesn't.

that is true.Is a common mistake to think that shovelware is doing good in the wii.Out of 100 titles, around 1-5 does alright, the rest goes into the real real flop areas(way worse than the 100k a month "flop", im talking REAL flop not the fanboy flop).Notice how the sholveware launches are diminishing this year(great news), but the 3rd party had a noticeable boost.

I'm with you, I've been waiting for some price drops on Nintendo's titles for a year... wait, almost 2 years now! Still, the only time I pick up there stuff if when I happen to see a rare 50% off sale or something like that. Two reason we might not see it yet. One it is selling too fast that they still print the original stuff. Might as well keep printing without the change. Or two, they are selling slowly enough that the current stock hasn't dried up yet and there is little demand to put out a players choice...

In the GCN, games not made by Nintendo had the players choice logo too. The ones I can remember are Soul Calibur II and Resident Evil 4.

Mario Kart Wii is still selling like it was released yesterday.:o To me, that's amazing. I can't recall any games in past generations selling consistantly for so long. As long as Wii is a hot consumers item, there should not be any Player's Choice games anytime soon.

I'm aware of that, but Nintendo's the one in control of when the 'Players Choice' logo is introduced. Third-party developers and publishers have no say in the matter as far as I know. So even if it could (and probably would) be beneficial to them, Nintendo's still the one who decides when that's needed.

Your right, but I was trying to say that there are several games from Nintendo (Wii Fit, MKWii, New Super Mario Bros., Wii Play, Pokemon Whatever) that are always selling 100,000+ every month for many months.
