i'm planning to buy a ds this week after seeing such great games as TraumaCenter,FinalFantasyA2,NinjaGaiden,Castlevania... the list just goes on, but im afraid that maybe the DS is reaching the end of it's life span or is nintendo planning to create a new handheld soon, so... is it too late to buy a ds?

After posting a similar thread a few days ago, I picked up a DS this past weekend, and I am not regretting it at all. The DS is still selling millions, so it doesn't make sense economically for Nintendo to stop making it yet. There is a huge catalogue of great games (I'm enjoying FFTA2 right now) with some more on the horizon (Chrono Trigger, GTA, etc.). I would definitely recommend getting one.

Zelda: Phantom Hourglass uses the stylus non stop throughout the game and its a Zelda so you know its gonna be awesome and have plenty of stuff to make it a long game. I don't have many games cause i just bought mine recently as well, but i got that first and it was an awesome starter game for the DS for me :D

I saw a thread like this just a few days ago, seriously people, and no it's not too late to pick up a system that is pretty cheap compared to the consoles and buy the 20 games that are good on it.

GBA came out a bit before the Gamecube did and it lasted much longer than the Gamecube did in terms of quality games being released on the system. If that's true, the DS should last just as long, so you have quite a bit of time. I got a DS just last week and I'm really loving it.

Why on earth do people keep posting threads like this? These threads have taken over "Hey, when's Super Smash Brothers DS coming out?!?!?!" threads as the most re-posted topic on the board.

The DS is still selling by the truckload. They're incredibly popular, and Nintendo is going to ride that wave as long as possible. The next handheld will come, but it will be a while.

NO

there's still remaining games of the nintendo franchises left, like smash bros. or f-zero (there's a lot of F-Zero games on the GBA, maybe a reason for not release a F-Zero game for the DS, but im still have hope)

You do know that if its just a DS only smaller. its still a DS.... And if its going to be promoted on the Q3 09, Why is there a video?

Dont worry about the DS not lasting long. Its one of the best handhelds ever made (correct me if I am wrong. THÉ best)

Games are coming out by the dozens and there is a lot to look forward to.

Just dont forget to get the first Phoenix Wright game, Animal Crossing Wild world, A Mario (Kart,Bros or 64 remake) and ofcourse Ninja Gaiden.

the compact looks like it's a little flimsy and might break easily and the stylus looks really thin and difficult to hold. I find the ds lite to be compact enough as it is, and very sturdy. I kinda prefer the Ds lite to the compact. It's going to be $300 though. I wonder how the movie thing will work. Are they going to have their own format like PSP? I personally don't see the point of buying a movie to watch it on a tiny screen. As for mp3 playback... I already have an iPod.

you should not wait, just buy a DS now. No new DS is coming out for probably 2 years or so.

Also you have perfect timeing because right now it's been out long enough that all the best games are mostly already out but yet it's not going to get replaced by a new system for a long time.

and get Zelda DS if you want a stylus heavy game, or kirby canvas curse.

Animal Crossing: Wild World. Yup, the classics. You can control the whole game (I think) using nothing but the stylus.

Definitely NOT! The PSP is, and I know. Currently there is only 1 game I want to buy. And I've only played 3. Hell, my PSP whould be traded in already if I didn't have my music and videos on there.
