Ok well I'm playing Twilight Princess. And in the temples I get easily frustrated and find myself just wanting to get out quick. This often leads me to getting guides. Mainly because I know that if I quit I'm going to have to do it ALL again, but also because I find myself getting stuck a lot.
Does that make me a bad gamer?
Did anyone else find themselves using guides through some of the temples?

I think I remember having to use a guide to figure out what the heck I was supposed to do in the sky temple. I personally think it's better to use a guide than to get so frustrated that you quit playing.

I had to use guides a couple of times to get through TP, especially with the first windmill thing in the temple. You know, the four totem poles with the things on it. It took me half an hour trying to figure out where to go next. Got a guide, figured out to go to the windmill thing. Then I spent about an hour throwing my boomerang until i said "stuff it, get the guide"

Guides are a god for inexperianced Zelda players. So no your not a bad gamer

I really don't know why Zelda doesn't allow you to stay in your save points. It's so stupid and game-y. Some of the temples in TP were more difficult than OoT's corresponding temples. I think the Water Temple in TP was far more complex and confusing than OoT. The bosses were easier though. Don't worry about using game guides. The most important thing is having FUN. If you're playing in a way that's thwarting your ability to have fun, then you're a bad gamer.

If you're not a fanboy and you respect other consoles then you're not a bad gamer. Point is, what you're doing has nothing to do with being a bad/good gamer. Just have fun!

I used an online guide for parts of TP also, mostly the sky temple and once in the ice mansion (I couldn't find one of the keys because it was buried in a treasure chest in the snow, that frustrated me a lot, especially when I found out I was walking over it the whole time). Gamers often come across places where they need extra help, just because you occasionally use one doesn't mean you're a bad gamer (if there even is such a thing)

ive recently become a fan of the zelda series, and i started on twilight princess. i didnt find it too bad in the temples, generally id figure out what i had to do sooner or later, but i did think the sky temple was incredibly frustrating.

after i finished it i started playing ocarina of time on virtual console, and as soon as i got to the adult link part i found every temple i did to be ridiculously infuriating. i eventually abandoned the game in the water temple just because i was no longer having fun and i didnt want to use a guide.

pretty annoying.

No, your not a bad gamer (in a motherly tone)! Games aren't supposed to be a challenge if you don't want them to be. They are for the enjoyment, to find new experiences. Don't be ashamed of using a guide, I do it all the time in those kind of games.

Bad gamer? Needing a FAQ doesn't make you a bad gamer. I'm sure we've all used a guide at some point or another, or at least eventually need to.

Some of these posts made me smile.
Phew, I felt pretty embarrassed having to get guides for the water temple, I'm up to the sand temple at the moment and I just got stuck, although I did get pretty far in. I got frustrated and turned it off, and I haven't tried since that because I know I have to go through it all again. I'm gunna do it though :)

Don't worry, I used the guide on the first temple. Even if you were the only one who used one, a single game wouldn't make you a bad gamer.

I generally try not to use guides, cuz to me i dont feel like i did the work of beating the game when i had the puzzles already solved for me. So i force taught myself a couple of good hints that zelda players could use. I am a seasoned zelda player though but when i first started playing i did the exact same thing. here are some hints that should help.

1) LOOK EVERYWHERE, look for little inconsistencies, look for things that arnt right/ get your attention, and all temples have a "theme" that most puzzles in that dungeon or solved by

2) try EVERYTHING, if your stuck, use every item, no matter how much you might think it might not work, use it in every way possible that you think it might solve the puzzle, youl be suprised

3) Zero in on the problem, make sure you have every item you need, make sure every thing there is to do and every nook and cranny in every room is checked and rechecked for completeness (is that word?), Always keep in mind little hints npcs give you or items they give you, REMEMBER TRY EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING EVEN IF YOU THINK ITS SILLY! Half the time the problem is a room you over looked or a little chore you had to do in room blah blah or so.

after following these three rules i almost never used the guide, and when i did i found it was a lack of me not carrying out the above mentioned rules. Just pay attention, talk to every npc listen to what they have to say, listen to everything and youl be alright. The sense of accomplishment you get from beating a ZELDA! game without using a guide is truly satisfying.

Yeah this says it the best. If you try for awhile and can't get it than its better to look at a guide than get angry and not play the game.

The worst kinds of gamers I think are those who buy a certain game solely to flame about it... *just then Superman 64 pops in head followed by Zelda CD-i.* well...I don't really what the worst kind of gamers are but certainly not those who use a guide.

Those that hack and cheat in online games to win? I'd say those are the worst.

but no, there is nothing wrong with using a guide for a game, they're there for a reason. I used a guide a couple times in Twilight Princess to do some optional things (never for a temple though, I always want to do a temple completely by my own)

No, using a guide does not make you a 'bad gamer'. All you did, essentially, was ask for help and there's nothing wrong with that.

look at it this way.

games are made to  be fun, not to make you frustrated and angry. Its not fun to read the guide and do as it says. Play the game , search , give it couple of tries if you can't find what to do next use a guide and continue the fun. Its no exam or work so you have to do it the hard way.

to me , when a game makes you confused or unable to progress, its a fault made by the develoeprs. you should never reach the "stuck" stage in anygame.

You think that's bad? I had to use a guide for Silent Hill 2.

On the easiest difficulty.

with riddles set to the lowest difficulty.

Where I couldn't die.

Your a bad gamer if you cant beat it with the help of the guide. I havn't played that one (altho I do own it) but from my experiences with the old school zeldas they're pretty darn tough. If you're a bad gamer for that then so are the millions of other people who frequent gamefaqs and other cheat sites every day.

Also, I get murderously frustrated when playing (and losing at) games, like I want to .- yes - murder something. this temper generally sentences my control to a gruesome death.im workin on it cuz those things are expensive.

LOL at above poster tho I hear silent hill games are very hard. I know of some games that are still hard on easy.

If it helps your experience with the game, using a game guide would be suggested.I got pretty lost in a number of the temples, but I managed to beat the game out without using a guide.

No, your not a bad gamer. It's all about having fun!

I personally enjoy solving the puzzles the temples have to offer. When It comes to doing the quest to gain access to the Sky World I had to ask my brother. (**Spoilers Ahead**) I mean is really annoying having to figure out that you have to talk to the crazy doctor in the Castle Town, then go to this person, then another NPC...When there is little indication of what you have to do. My philosophy is: if your completely stuck, consult a guide.

Yes you are a bad gamer. Every once in a while maybe occasionaly I get stuck in a game. These moments are exciting because they don't happen very often. But when they do they force me to think, to use my mind more then usual. I have to take a step back and think of every alternative possible. This is amazing. To me using the guide is the cheesy and wimpy way out. Are you admitting that you aren't smart enough to solve the puzzle? So you went out and bought the game and the guide and started "playing". When you are reading the guide you are following step by step direction, you are just following the orders. Doesn't it decrease the fun. From your post it seems like you are quick to quit, I wonder if you are quick to quit in other areas besides games. I believe that it's a horrible habit to take the easy route(using a guide) when you could just very well solve it yourself. Maybe you lack confidence if you do gain confidence, or maybe you are less then 12 years old and you can't think out of the box, in this case just wait till your older. Getting stuck in a game is a challenge, the question is are you smart enough to solve it, or are you a flimsy quitter?

Anyway could you you believe I was moderated for posting a message similar to this one on the grounds of "soley to annoy to others". I am not sorry to whoever moderated me, it was probably someone who uses a guide but If I have an opinion I will say it. If a post similar to this got moderated because of "intend soley to annoy others" you might as well ban every kid here on gamespot who provides points to support his/her argument because they are clearly in "intent to solely annoy others". I like my freedom of speech.

I used a guide quite a few times in Twilight Princess, but not as much as I did in Ocarina of Time.
