The guy giving this presentation is lame, but bare with it anyway....

VIDEO:

http://www.gamekyo.com/video12314_animal-crossing-city-folks-video-presentation.html

I had so may high hopes for this game and now they are all shattered since all the info that has come to light since E3. The total lack of creativity and progression in this series is what gets to me the most. It has nothing at all to do with the way it looks, in fact I love the way it looks, that is what Animal Crossing is supposed to look like. The game to me just looks woefully stagnant now, especially when you look at the likes of LBP and what it's doing with community.

I am happy about the introduction of WiiSpeak and a few other things but it seems that Nintendo think that and a few minor additions are enough. The fact is sadly they are enough, people will still buy this game in droves and make it a huge success despite the fact it is essentially the same game reworked with only a handful of revisions. All they have to do is bundle WiiSpeak with it and that will be enough of a incentive for many. What is a worrying for me as a older gamer (30ish) is that it I doubt the game will cater for the attention span of people my age better than the DS game, or the GC game for that matter. There needs to be more stuff to do within the environment and I doubt yet again this version will deliver on the evidence of what I have seen so far.

Maybe this all makes perfect sense though, for me the series has lost a generation of progression, after all the GC game was essentially a N64 game that simply contained tacked on features like Animal Island.

A year ago I had some may high hopes about what could be possible both with Wii's control scheme and the advent of WiiConnect24 :(-

http://www.cubed3.com/topic/20742/

I have had a lot of fun with Animal Crossing games of the past but I demand so much more, more of everything, more interaction with fellow players in fun ways. I wanted to see this game utilize the Wii remote and now MotionPlus in interesting and innovative ways, I now know/feel that is not going to happen.

Ultimately all I wanted was a community for Wii owners that is a sort of Nintendofied version of HOME on PS3, it's sad to have those hopes dashed.

Oh for the love of........

Nintendo is making Animal Crossing

If you want a new game then wait for a new game, don't expect Animal Crossing to abandon everything it's done just so it can fit a new genre mold you want for it

Animal Crossing fits into its own special genre, it does not compare to anything so it's best not to....

It's too early to tell how much new content is in AC:CF. Yes, it may be the "same old thing" but with lots of new details added for players to discover. We just don't know.

Sancroff

Yes I agree, there may well be some aspects we have yet to be told about, but don't you think if there was anything interesting and new they would show a little of that at E3 to get seasoned players of the game excited?

You have to admit it does look very samey, and I do not mean in respect to the graphics.I think they have lost a great opportunity for the game to really be taken to the next level. From what I understand there will not be a dedicated Wii Channel, I think that's a shame certainly if true.

Yeah, because the stuff they show at the game's premiere is all it's gonna have. Yeah. Like Brawl, it only has ten characters because that's all there was shown at its own unveiling.

It does utilize the Wii remote, it uses the Wii remote. It doesn't have tacked on controls (hey Zelda raise your hand? Thanks)

You want it to use the new Wiimote add on? Wha?

How can they use something that users can't even get yet?
Also what motions can there be? It's a sim game, you want the actions in there then look for a Harvest Moon type game.

I couldn't make it simpler

Well maybe I can

A. The games uses the Wiimote
B. You're asking it to use a device not even released and it wont be released by the time the game is out
C. If you want a different kind of game pick a different game

Jaysonguy, dude, you have no sense at all. Whatever you're posting, has got NOTHING to do with whatever that dude you're quoting said.

I don't know how I can make it any simpler for you to understand that.

I am well aware the game uses it, but it would seem it does not use it in anyway that is new and exciting, this is because they have restricted the game engine and in turn the possibilities. It would have been fantastic to give the opportunity for players to take part in new mini games, in first person if need be.

Nintendo have been working on Wii MotionPlus for a while now, LiveMove 2 which caters for it has been with some choice developers since May, if they wanted to they could have implimented some form of support within the game, but they have not.

The Gamecube game had features not immediately accessible to some, why not this game?

I think I understand what you're saying. You can't really compare AC to another title, because it has it's own unique feel. BUT! There are other games which have kept much of what you love from their previous entry but have something exciting to introduce to franchise. That's not to say that the new AC will not have a new gameplay feature. I personally hope that the new Animal Crossing gives you more to do within a single hour.

The game has always been about social interaction. I think a cool thing that would be absolutely neat is getting a profession system that could benefit you and other players. A player could become a fashion designer and have his or her own shop! You could earn bells by having online players or NPCs purchase your "custom" material. Another neat idea would be a carpenter profession giving the player the ability to make rare funiture that can't be obtained in the game accept from other players.

And I bet you can count on some other mini-games(even if it's boxing) that'll use the wii-remote. Like I said, I think AC needs to throw in a lot of variety if you just want to play for 30 or 60 minutes. From the Nintendo conference I saw a lot of things that added fine detail to the world, or features that were obvious additions.

This is one of my top 20 E3 games, but I am still considering it a rental.

1. Do we know for sure that they don't have any little mini games like that(serious question). If not, then its the same situation as Fire Emblem, it doesn't need the motion controls, and in fact, could be hindered by them if put in for menial tasks.

2. That still doesn't change the fact that MotionPlus won't be out at the time Animal Crossing will be. It is slated to come out a full 1/2 a year after Animal Crossing.

Well I know it uses the wii remote, but when i heard no motion controls i was disapointed.

They should make some sort of minigame for the fishing and bug catching rather than just pressing a button, and there should be alot more, considering right now it seems like they ported the DS game, added better graphics, and added a mini city square.

Of course there is a while before it comes out, and im sure they will add plenty of new features. Its just a bit underwhelming right now.

I don't understand how your hopes could be deminished all because of an E3 video first of all. Also I don't understand what you expected them to change. The game is Animal Crossing, there not going to change a lot of things on it. Their just going to add more features and such. You should wait till more info comes out for the game before you all of a sudden become disappointed with a game.

When I bought the first Animal Crossing game I let the fact that the concept of living with a bunch of talking animals is weird slip by, assuming that given the Gamecube's technical aspects this was the best they could do with the series at that point.

The DS version came out, and I was so wowed by its good graphics that I didn't really care too much whether it had made much progression - it was a handheld game after all, and the graphics were about as good as its predecessors'.

I was hoping that with the Wii they would have at least made the characters in the game look more like Banjo-Kazooie. But of course, it has become apparent now that they don't want to try to make the game feel like a real sim - they want it to be kinda childish. The thing is, I honestly don't see a group of guys in their 20s sitting around and playing the fishing minigame with eachother online to catch one of the 50-or-so fish that exist in the game, while being able to enjoy themselves.

The truth is, any one of us could come up with a better Animal Crossing game than Nintendo does. I've suggested time and time again, more realistic, majestic animal townspeople living in a fantasy forested land, where you walk around in a 3rd-person perspective and actually interact with the other animals and their world, and make decisions to either exploit this amazing enchanted civilization of intelligent animals or else befriend them and make their world a better place for them to live in.

But, whichever development team is working on this series, doesn't want to take the time to make anything look 'real', they want it so be solid colors and smiles. But once the PS3 and XBox get their own town simulation games, Nintendo will regret not doing more with Animal Crossing, and it will be too little too late.

So... you want Animal Crossing to be a poorly executed Oblivion clone?

I'm serious. I don't know what Oblivion is and I take your opinion that it would in fact have to be 'poorly-executed' as a bit of an insult, but I think there is a lot of potential for Animal Crossing. I was actually thinking more along the lines of Fable where you make decisions and stuff that affect yourself and the village, but whatever.

Tl;dr. Anyways, AC is a VERY niche game. And thats the way they are keeping it. The hardcore fans like it for what it is, and all of the details aren't out yet or anything.

I can't really tell if you're joking, man, the internet is ****ed up enough for you to be serious...

So you want animal crossing to not be animal crossing? Gotcha. People that like AC like it for what it is, not because the AC universe has the potential to be like Fable T.T

You're right, I don't want it to be like Animal Crossing. I want it to be better than Animal Crossing, because, like a kid who has the potential to be a great doctor, lawyer or game designer, I don't want it to waste its life away being a re-release of pretty much the same exact game.

I'd rather have a poorly executed fallout 3 clone with all the animals turned into apocalyptic zombies and patches of flesh and fur falling off them.

The WiiSpeak mic isn't being included with the game's packaging. You can just use it in the game.

All you guys supporting this move by Nintendo sound like pathetic fanboys!

The thread is titled "where has Nintendo's creativity gone?" and this game perfectly exemplifies that point. Nintendo's creativity is fading fast and this + most of the other games released by them this gen (except Super Mario Galaxy) are almost complete rehashes.

More exploration and online connectivity should have been a no brainer and there are at least a dozen other ideas I can think of that could smoothly be incorporated into the Animal Crossing universe. What they are doing is no different than EA milking their sports franchises by releasing barely modified updates yearly. Actually, it's worse because we had to wait years for this barely modified update from Nintendo.

Thank you, good to know I am not the only person that feels Nintendo could be doing more with their releases on a console that is 'revolutionary'.

THIS is exactly what I am getting at! Thankyou. I am sick to death of the introductory games and the milking that comes with it.

I never want Animal Crossing to fundamentally change it's core gameplay mechanic, that must always be retained, but why cannot it attain new ones that are on the same level and are as creative as games about to hit elsewhere very soon. So many diiferent games are going to be able to create better comminities than found here because they are excitingly fresh and very cool. That is the sad truth.

I would have loved to see a Pixel art gallery, where you can post your creations on your Wii friends in game message boards, there could be competitions also , and i would also like to see the same interface used to make banners for your own parties that you arrange by invitation using a new dedicated channel. Why not have a Art Gallery where people can rate your work.

A dedicated downloadable channel, with a wide array of downloads available. (not going to happen)

Wii remote functionality also using the Nunchuk for mini games in a Arcade. The games can be played for a price of bells.

Birdo's Egg n Spoon Race, using the Wii Remote, top prize wins the infamous golden egg that will bring fame and fortune to all that possess it.

A revised message board system that utilizes the Wii friends address book but using a new interface on the new channel

A vast new very sizable town with more complexity in characters for your older gamer- ie much better characterization with interlinking stories.

I would also like to be able to send other stuff to friends using a horse and cart delivery service, that takes ages.

Greater customization of both your home and garden inc water features,

A town windmill or a highpoint that you can climb to the top of to look down on the progress of your town. Perhaps even a air balloon ride as, it would be a great location for conversations with friends.

Hide and seek, for when friends come over - hotter-colder .

Themes tunes for the seasons

I want customizable door bell entry to the houses using the A button and Wii remote speaker, tunes can be downloaded from Wii connect and implanted into the game via the dedicated channel.

I want a skipping contest as seen in Wario W, and a patta-cake game using the Nunchuk and remote also, for good measure lol.

I want a hammock, one that swings, and can be tied anywhere between two trees. It would be a great setting for conversations with friends.

A Pleasure Island resort, it has Coconut trees that can be found on the islands beaches. A vacation resort where everyone in AC can play games and interact in the environment in a way not found at home. The cost of such a trip is a high price of bells.

I got warned and my post was deleted. I never said anyone was anything, I said that what they were saying made them sound like they were. I will try to avoid even doing that next time I guess.

Linkyshinks is full of ideas that would have fit into the Animal Crossing style gameplay easily. Those are the type of ideas that Nintendo should have blown everyone away with at the conference.

I fully agree. This game is more animal crossing 1.5.1 than it is a new game. The city is just a relocation of a couple shops, the motion control is completely unused, every system remains the exact same, online is still completley interactionless, and if new items are all you can talk about then it's just an expansion pack, not a sequal.

Some may say "animal crossing doesn't need to change" but you're wrong, it does. They could insert more ways to make money than fruit harvesting and digging, they could make items more than decoration to lay down in your house you never visit, they could revamp fishing to require more than pressing A at the right time. They could do so much, but all they've done is ported animal crossing from ds to wii with a couple changes.

Fishing is definitely a disappointment, like I say earlier this all comes down to the limitations of the game engine not allowing first person. The technology Nintendo chooses to employ is at the most basic level.

I would have spent hours just fishing with friends if the game engine allowed first person. If it did allow for it, it would have given a fantastic perspective on the charming world that is AC, and opened up so many possibilites.

the developer sounds REALLY Lazy! Saying sorry for not having something and you have plenty of time to implement said feature is no excuse knowing many fans want it.To me, AC:CF looks like they just drag and drop the DS AC into a Wii disc, cleaned out the edges, added a little section called the city, and named the game Animal Crossing:City Folks. I will not be purchasing AC for Wii. The DS game itself got extremely boring once you've done everything. I dont care what hype is created here in GS and elsewhere upon release. Im not falling for teh hype.

isn't the simplicity part of it's appeal? it's simple and cute, and the kind of game you can pick up and play over coffee and cereal in the morning before going to work, or while you wait for your girlfriend to get ready to go out (that'll be at least 30 minutes of free time, amiright guys?)

why does it need to be overly complicated? add in friend codes and the fact that the Wii has internet connectivity which means that if you want to purchase extra content, then we're not going to have to wander to the store and hope that they have those damn cards (and buy that $50 add on to make them work), and it's a pretty good concept.

i'm looking forward to it, and to the fact that it's something melissa and i can play together without me having to go easy on her.

this will be a big hit, and not because "stupid, naive casual gamers" will buy it, but because it's a solid concept executed well.

None of those ideas I posted would make the gameplay complicated, they would simply make it more fun and enjoyable in the MP setting.

I complained that Wild World didn't really try anything new. It was still enjoyable but the longivity suffered for me as I had already played the original to death.

From what we've seen of City Folk, it seems pretty clear that it makes very little effort to adapt and change from its predecessors. Which is a shame because there was much potential here. I probably won't buy it unless we see some pretty major additions. We all know that isn't going to happen.
