yeah I can see how your hands would be a bit uncomfortable, especially when the directional buttons are small, and the 1 and 2 buttons are small and not 'concaved' like NES remote. I wonder if 3rd party vendors will create better Wii remotes to defeat that problem.
All we can do is wait and see.
thanks to spm i've been using the controller on it's side.
it's not awfull. it just doesn't have that high level of comfort i've gotten use to with nintendo controllers.my preference would be that the wii remote was made to only be held virtically. and that they'd arrange the buttons to be perfect for that. and for games like spm, you would simply use the virtual controller. and then just grab the remote any time you needed motion sensing or a pointer.
for spm, i would have liked it better if instead of pushing A to change dimensions, you pressed R. and instead of pushing 1 and 2 at the same time, you pressed either x or y.captainlouie
Who would pay an extra $20 -30 for a controller to play a game ? That would make nintendo look bad. so they made it work for both verticle and horozontal...

To take the strap off makes the controller 2 times more comfortable.
It feels fine on its side for me. I just got done with the pit of 100 trials in Super Paper Mario, died once when I got to level 100..., and then beat it again. That was 7 hours of me playing it with the wiimote on its side, and it felt greatz :Domgadam
Yeah, i find holding it on the side uncomfortable, its too long and I havnt really used the primitive D-pad to control a character in a while, analog stick is much better imo. Lack of buttons is also irritating in SPM. I dont like pressing 1 and 2 to get into the menu, as it requires you to do this A LOT to change characters, faries or just use an item. If holding the wiimote the classic way had more buttons available im sure the game would be a lot more funner. For example, to change characters you would just hit the L or R bumpers on top of a normal controller.RoyTheSwordsman

Only 2 times? I never knew you could quantify comfort, because to me it seems completely subjective. For example, there's a bunch of old ladies at church that always complain in the summer when they jack up the A/C. If we were to let them set the thermostat to 80 it would be unbearable to nearly everyone else, yet they would be completely comfortable. They're all nice old ladies, so you can't yell, "were you born on the sun? Put another shawl on, I can't take anything else off!"
The wiimote (when being held sideways) is just annoying enough to bother me but not annoying enough to put down the game.
Also, we all knew that the severe lack of buttons would bite Nintendo in the ass eventually, and the first nibble has been taken with SPM.
i like holding the wiimote sideways, i think it's a better NES controller than the NES controller was to start with. with regards to the classic controller, i like it for SNES and Genesis games, but hate it for being corded to the wiimote.

To take the strap off would be like... driving a car without a seatbelt.

I agree. And I can't help but feel the functions of hitting 1 & 2 together could be mapped to a single button, after all...this is a GCN game. I was really hoping to be able to use a vc controller with this game. My biggest complaint is the tiny D-Pad that's too close to the A button for my man hands. I can't count how many times I flipped into 3D by accident.

yeah i took the strap off...if im stupid enought to let go off my controller while throwing it in the direction of my TV screen then my TV deserves to be broken...

lol agreed.
The wii remote is absolute pain if you're like me and got pretty big hands. Sometimes you'll press the 1 and 2 buttons unintentionally because they're so small.hazuki
