But, I thought the Wi-Fi adapter was just that. The ability to feed off of your DSL connection, wirelessly to your Wii and / or DS.Lupin-and-Asuka
It is. As long as you have the computer on you can get your Wii or DS online.
The thing is that with the router (which is about the same price US) you can keep all your wired connections, get anything you want online wirelessly (DS, Wii, Laptops, other consoles), and it doesn't matter if your computer is on or off.
I have the USB WiFi connector and it is pretty good. Going with a wireless router instead means you can connect things other than a DS or Wii wirelessly but you should brush up on your knowledge of wireless security and key encryption so your neighbors don't leech off the open wireless connection, assuming they live close enough that they can connect to you.
The USB WiFi connector ONLY allows DS'es and Wii's to connect, nothing else (thus blocking a neighbor's computer) so I prefer using it, it's more secure.

You can do the exact same thing with a WiFi Router: lock it down to certain devices.
I think I'm just going to get the USB adapter. I am not tech-savvy, and know nothing about wireless routers and all of that junk - I just wanna download Virtual Console games.
-.-

Fair enough
If you run into trouble contact Nintendo. They have an entire department dedicated to getting people online.

Or, even better, lock down access by MAC address.

Very easy for non techies to do if you go to Nintendos site and your router is there.
