I buy primarily on disc (waiting for luigi U in august) and really dont have a reason to buy a hard drive. I prefer to have the disc, and there arent really any digital only games on the wii that i really want. Myabe if they really bring out Gamecube games, then im there. But the SNES and NES games take up no space, they dotn even have N64 for it yet. No games I own have DLC that intress me (if any) and theres no digital games.

Cant help but feel any hard drive purchase would be a waste at this point:? any one else feel this way?

Yea I'm fine with my 32GB + 16GB flash drive. Honestly, even with an 8GB system you'll be fine with a 64GB flash drive which can be found pretty cheap a lot of the time

Have to say I had a moment one day where I tried to buy Lego city of eshop and couldn't. But then I just got the didn't and moved on. I have 32 and 32 on my wii u now. I don't foresee any issues just like how I don't have any with my wii.

It depends on the person.  I have the 32GB and a 250GB HDD and I've used 5GB on my system and 20GB on my external drive.  Granted I could probably erase a couple of demos but I still would be close to using up all of my available system memory (25GB).  If you download retail games then the 32GB won't last that long (many games are 8-20GB each), but if you don't download many games than the system memory will be fine for  a while.

Didn't one of the firmware updates take up 5 gigs by itself? I would imagine anyone owning an 8 GB Wii-U is already running low on room in the system's internal memory.

It helped that none of the downloadable games on Wii exceeded 42 MB's.

I'm just getting to the point where I need one. I have a number of fair-sized eShop games (Trine 2, Little Inferno, Mighty Switch Force, Runner 2, Toki Tori 2) and now also the space needed for New Super Luigi U. And that doesn't include the Rayman Challenges App. I have the 8gb model, so I've been doing a lot of shuffling around to play what I want.

32gigs is fine for now, imo.  It works for updates, saves, game dlc, and the current vc library.  When larger games start becoming available--n64, Gamecube, etc...then will be the time to get a hdd.  I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo has a time schedule to release their own wiiu branded line of 2tb hdds.

Yep which is why I don't have one yet. I got the 8GB WiiU and still have space. I'll need it eventually but not at this time.

Perhaps if Nintendo was more convincing that digital downloads are the way to go I might eventually use a HD but right now the storage is quite sufficient since there isn't much of a reason to download a full length, new release game off the eShop.

It's actually pretty easy to fill it up with retail downloads.  Lego City Undercover is 23GB and a few like Assassins Creed 3 are about 17.  The biggest one I have is 11GB.

All my games, except NintendoLand, are digital, so I couldn't do it without the HDD.

I have a 8 gig with a 16gb flash drive. Currently there really isn't much to download but I expect to need something bigger later once more games/dlc come out.
