I dont know I just remeber gamers looking forward to TP more here. I still see the gif of link in TP sheathing his sword as peoples avatars and think the fans were going ape for this game. SS looks amazing and I will get it by years end, but the hype seems less energetic.

A lot of Zelda fans have probably come to the conclusion that nothing will ever top OoT. :P

I think the horrible motion controls they employed for the Wii port of Twilight Princess made everyone dubious as to how good a Wii Zelda game would be. I'm excited for it and have my gold controller edition all safely pre-ordered but I can understand why others would wait and see.

Yeah I also noticed it. It seems like Zelda's loudest fans aren't looking forward to Skyward Sword. Probably because of its artstyle, being they're biggest complaint.I also think that we're becoming more cautious when we're hyped since it could lead to disappointment when playing the game. Twilight Princess was a great game, but people loved it or hated it. People didn't like how it was too similar to OoT or how Hyrule was too empty or the lack of side quests or turning into a wolf. People loved how realistic the game looked or the combat or how Link was an adult. Nintendo can't please everyone.

I'm excited for Skyward Sword. I think it looks fantastic and it'll probably be as dark or darker than Twilight Princess when it comes to the story. Ghirahim's dialogue in the E3 demo was pretty gruesome and his tongue... oh god his tongue... :P

I think for the most part, people are disappointed by the choice of art style. Nintendo announced that TP would have mature graphics, but due to a VERY slow beginning, it wasn't considered the greatest in the series (as well as the wolf gimmick was just a collect-a-thon). Now, I completely disagree with the people who think those things! :) I think change is good, it opens up the possibility to greater games in the series. The only way they can improve something is by testing the water! Plus, I like both WW and TP. :3 I have high hopes for SS! I haven't watched anything besides the trailer so I can refrain from being spoiled, I want the whole experience! =]

I think that people have realized that hyping games to high Heaven will only lead to dissappoinment. (I was initially dissappointed with TP but, looking back and having replayed it, I can honestly say that it is a great and well made game.) Of course, I doubt any future installments will come close to being as good as Majora's Mask.

Agreed. Twilight Princess was hyped heavily because it took so damn long to develop, and how it was manipulated into a launch title on the Wii (with the Gamecube version delayed). But yeah, it took a massive hit when it featured really tacked on motion controls. Not to mention the awful pacing with what is probably the worst intro in any Zelda game, and the painful wolf bits where you hunt bugs.

There was nothing wrong with the controls in TP. I would hope people learned that blind hype is only detrimental, people hyped Twilight Princess to be better than it could possibly be and then were let down because of their own hype. So not being hyped as TP will only be better for a lot of people.

The motion controls sucked so hard. That control method was only topped by that rubbish blowing and yelling into the DS for Phantom Hourglass. Personally I was let down by the controls and the look of the game. When it came out I hadn't paid much attention so I was going into it with a fresh look.

Well I cant agree with that, controls didn't add anything, but they definitely didn't suck. Anyway when it comes to this hype business, no games are getting hyped, Gears is 2 weeks away, but you wouldn't know it. Arkham City, Uncharted 3, the only talk you hear about MW3 and BF3 is the endless comparisons, people don't seem hyped about any of the games coming out this year. Maybe it is time for a new console generation.

Exactly, and i think nintendo took note of this after brawl and TP since the hype reached levels that that could never feasibly be reached with the end product. I think its better that we know less about this game and in that way it will be much better since people will be more pleasantly surprised than if they went in expecting certain things or ended up having most of the mystery taken out of the game before its released. I think its looking fantastic myself, and its easily my most anticipated game of the year, it doesnt need overblown hype as far as im concerned.

TP was hyped like crazy. It was hyped more because it was the Zelda everyone was waiting for. Too many people believed there hadn't been a real Zelda game since 1998 when OOT came out. SS also has the draw back of the motion control and how Nintendo is handeling things with it. Not much of SS has been shown, which is the source of all hype, and the motion controll is iffy. No one is sure how well it just works.

To be fair I really don't enjoy motion gaming outside of Kinect Adventures / Wii Sports kind of stuff so my opinion of them in TP is probably a bit skewed. If I don't like the controls it's highly unlikely I was going to enjoy the game.

I just wish they applied the same setup they used for the Ocarina of Time remake where the motion based controls were optional. Anyway, don't mean to derail this into a motion control thread :)

I'll agree that the hype is down. Why that is could be a multitude of reasons. It also feels like even Nintendo themselves aren't hyping SS as much as they hyped TP. Also, @Pixel-Perfect Love the sig. Is that animation from the anime?

I actually feel like Nintendo hasn't marketed SS quite as well as TP. Miyamoto actually appeared on stage with a sword and shield immediately after showing us an epic trailer that seemed like something out of Lord of the Rings, but instead it was a Zelda game. I've seen nothing of the sort for Skyward Sword that would build up that kind of excitement.

If these things describe "hype", then I'm glad they decided not to hype it. While the GDC11 (SS trailer 2) was a huge disappointment to many, my hype continued to skyrocket as they showed substantial gameplay footage.

TP's was just a cinematic teaser that didn't tell you about the game itself besides graphics. You could say Nintendo was trying to cater to the dudebro crowd with GC, maybe why I disliked the console and its library?

Yeah by alot. I think the big thing is that the Wii is behind the 360/PS3 so much it is hard to hype it as much as big titles like Uncharted 3/Gears 3.

yea, not alot of hype so far. Maybe as we get closer to the November release they will turn it up a notch. At least they gave us a special edition package. Hoepfully the game is good enough to just sell itself, regardless of Nintendo injected hype.

Big picture wise, it's actually kinda sad we're just now getting an original Zelda for the wii 5 years after the release of the console. I bought TP for the GC as it was meant to be.

I think its fine for people to get excited about the game. It does seem less then TP. I love TP (actually playing it right now)but I found one fatal flaw that everyone seems to fall under once. People don't get excited for the information given. They use the info given and immediately jump to thoughts of a perfect game like 'I bet it will have this and that' instead of 'it has this and it looks great!'. When any part of a game is revealed we all start talking about our perfect game and the line between what we have and what we want gets blurred. Thats when hype goes terribly wrong.

Yeah. I see next to no hype for SS, and TP wouldn't stop getting hyped. I was also, myself, a lot more hyped for TP than I am now for SS. I really think SS will be the better game, but I'm still not that hyped. It's more like "Sweet, a new Zelda, it's gonna be fun" rather than "OMFG, ZELDDAAAA, it's gonna be the best one EVAAAR". Don't know why, but that's how it is.

It's a mix of Nintendo being very quiet about this game's release, it came at the same time as the release of the 3DS and WiiU, so people are distracted by those, and Nintendo's "core" following has indeed dropped due to dislike of the Wii. That is why it seems like there is so much less hype over this game, even though it is looking to be much better than TP.

To strengthen your point, it's also the droughts of Wii, Operation Rainfall, trailers that show pure gameplay but they are somehow bad because they they to be Epic and Cinematic! The media isn't helping at all as they are simply clueless about anything Nintendo related.

Giantbomb outright said that they won't cover games in depth they don't care about. I listened 2-3 hours trying to find the SS segment in one of the podcasts, as I was looking for every detail about the game and it turned out they where just joking around "do you still have the booooomerang??! hihihih" also IGN's, 'IGN Nintendo Team Editor' waggling the crap out of that wiimote isn't really helping to convince people that this isn't really waggle.

Additionally: It's a waggle game OMG they ruined Zelda! // Lol what a fail E3 2010 presentation, game is fail, don't care what the journalists testing the game say, game is broken // The artstyle! What is this kiddy stuff! I want realistic Link like TP!

There's a ton more, but there you have it. SS is actually my most hyped video game ever. They truly went all in on this one. This is the Zelda game. It all depends on the execution now.

I think the horrible motion controls they employed for the Wii port of Twilight Princess made everyone dubious as to how good a Wii Zelda game would be. I'm excited for it and have my gold controller edition all safely pre-ordered but I can understand why others would wait and see.

Chickan_117
This is almost my exact reasoning behind me not worrying about it. I'm yet to find a motion controlled game I like, regardless of the opinions found on the internet, as such I have labeled this up as "Motion Controlled Zelda" and probably won't even bother with it. And I don't want them (Nintendo) to get the idea I WANT motion controls moving forward so I can't even buy it to try it out.

The hype for Twilight Princess was incredible. I can still remember Gerstmann giving it an 8.8 and the backlash that insued.

Skyward Sword doesn't have much hype due to the art style, dissatifaction with the Wii, and the motion controls.

I'm very much looking forward to Skyward Sword though. It's my only 100% day one purchase for the rest of the year.

Well, from what I have seen of Skyward Sword, the controls seem to work pretty well. Also, I liked the controls in the GoldenEye remake, Metroid Prime, and they weren't bad in Super Mario Galaxy either.

And see the last thing I watched in terms of the controls was E3... which is chalked up by most as a bad setup not bad controls. Regardless, even Miyamoto couldn't use them.

Which is probably why Twilight Princess disappointed so many people. Less hype is a better thing, in my opinion.

And when is Nintendo going to release Skyward Sword? No release date set-- they seem to just keep saying it'll be this Christmas season, when alot of other major games this Fall have set release dates. Does anyone smell a delay coming? Or is it even remotely possible that SS might get pushed to the Wii U?

Agreed 100%...I remember telling my friend that TP better be the "game of all games" due to its constant delays.

Agreed, my favourite zelda game. Gamespot must be the only site on the interwebz where this game is viewed as a disappointment.
