You put the disk in, the screen goes blank, the Wii motes wont turn on, and the game does not start. There is just a black screen. The only way to stop this is to turn it off by pressing and holding the power button on the console.

This happened twice to me. First time when I put the disk in the console when it was off.

The second time (yesterday), I put the disk in (after the console was on) then selected start from the menu, then the problem occured when the game was supposed to start. This happen to anyone else, and does anyone know why it happens?

That's normal. The Wii is a computer, and computers freeze. Don't worry unless it happens too often.

That's because it connects to the internet during those black screens. If it can't connect it will keep on retrying for a long period of time.... poor programming really. If you disable wiiconnect24 it will never happen again.

It happens to me sometimes, but a bit differently. Sometimes the Wii-mote randomly stops working, and everything freezes up. The Wii-mote won't turn back on (The lights flash, but after about 30 seconds of flashing they just cut out), and the system will not turn off by pressing the button. This has happened to me about 10 or 11 times now, and the only way to turn off the system when it does this is to remove the power cord from the back. Not very good on the system, but theres nothing else I can do. The wii is pretty faulty, but it takes a while to perfect new ideas.

Well mine works fine although I did have some problems with multiple controllers etc.  But if you do have problems, I'd suggest contacting Nintendo  because you do have that auto 1 year warranty and Nintendo is very good with protecting its customers from faulty hardware.  My GC, and even dead pixels on a DS were hassle free exchanges.
