Right now I am 16 stars away from beating Galaxy, and I love the game, it's absolutely the best game for the Wii and I can see it becoming one of my favorite games of all time.

Anyways, I have very few complaints about the game thus far, but one glowing complaint I have is the swimming controls ... they leave something to be desired.

I have such a difficult time directing Mario in the right area, gaining speed, and avoiding enemies. The controls just seem to labor for me, and I'm not a huge fan of them, as they could really be alot tighter.

Anyone else annoyed by that, or am Ia man without a country?

i agree with you. the swimming missions do suck but at least they are not too hard to beat. it's hard to control the fat plumer when he's underwater, but at least there are not a lot of underwater missions.

I agree to 100%. He's hard to direct and the camera system that's used under water is preatty messed up.

imo i love the swimming controls. they felt nice and tight, not soo loose that you coould swim circles aaround yourself, yes they could be better / easyer if they made the controls less realistic as far as flexibility of a fat man goes any way.

swimming controls usually seem hard to do for some reason. the same thing applies to galaxy. i've only had a camera issue once or twice though.

The water controls are only confusing to me when you are swimming upside down (one of the stars on the Buoy level)

But for the most part, it's fine. Just remember, pressing 'Z' will allow you to dive if you on the surface.

I haven't gotten to any swimming levels yet, but if the controls are anything like ray surfing then it leaves a lot to be desired...

Don't hate but it is kinda annoying. Though like one poster said, it is easier than the mario 64 ones.

I think they're fine, except when I'm trying to get out of the water quickly. I'll just end up swimming faster, and not spin away from the water. This is especially bothersome when you are trying to get out of the ice-cold water.

I've just completed the game, though! Very rewarding.

Yeah, the Ray surfing was horrible too.

After falling off the track the first 5 times I tried, I ended up making the slowest circle around that course as humanly possible. I was just glad it was over.

I really didn't mind the swimming controls, but the camera annoys me, it always seems to end up behind something non-see thru, and I just have to keep pressing A until I can ssee him. Speaking of mario galaxy, bye!

I beat both Ray tracks the first time through, and the swimming doesn't bother me. The Rolling levels on the other hand........Why do you have to hold the Wiimote straight up? It would have made much more sense and felt better to hold the Wiimote sideways for the rolling levels. Especially that bastard rlling level from the green lumas.

Yeah, it's hard to control, but that's nothing new. I can't think of any game where swimming is easy. Personally, I'm way more aggravated by the Spring Suit. Ugh. Those are actually my only two gripes with an otherwise near perfect game.

Woops, sorry for spoiling it. I thought you meant 16 stars from 120 not 60... Sorry 'bout that. You may not find it that bad...:)

How was the Ray Surfing hard? Sure, I fell off like 2 or 3 times, but after that I flew across that course. My best time is about 1 minutes flat. It's all about finness with the hand and knowing to adjust immediatly after a hard turn.

As for the swimming...it's fine. It would be wise to make use of the dive control (Z) when you're above something because trying to swim down wont make you swim down vertically, but at a slight slant and so you'll miss what you are trying to get.

There was someone on here last week that said the same thing so once I got to the first water level I was like OMG this is going to be rubbish, but after playing it I didn't think it was too bad.

I'm sure, like everything, there are some people who just get the hang of it. Personally, I couldn't get the timing right and kept flying off the track.

Can't win 'em all I guess ...

The swimming is supposed to be hard, that's why they give you so much air.

As for me, I perfected swimming in Mario 64, so this was a breeze for me. I thought that it was too easy, and that they gave you too much air, and too many air bubbles floating around. I really liked the shells though. While playing Mario 64, I always wished that the underwater shells would last more than 10 seconds. Kind of lame, if you ask me.

Also, when you're playing the Mantaray surfing level, just take it easy and don't turn your controller all the way left then all the way right. It never works. Just make subtle movements, and brake when you come to sharp corners. You should be fine. I beat the first surfing level in about a minute that way.

I found the swimming controls to be very good. The only problem is trying to get out of the water in a hurry, especially in the ice levels like one of the guys said. You fall in and then it's really hard getting out. I also found the manta ray surfing be be very good as well. My record is 59 seconds!
