Anyone know when the DS2 will come out?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Is there a general estimate of time when the DS2 will come out? I mean like the 4th quarter of 2010, early 2011, etc?Apart from the 'higher ups' at Nintendo? No.

Is there a general estimate of time when the DS2 will come out? I mean like the 4th quarter of 2010, early 2011, etc? Officially? No. However I've heard/read rumors of a late 2010/ early 2011 release date...the ds is 6-7 years old they really have to release a new handheld, im hoping for at least gamcube quaility look how good the psp's games look and thats about 6 years old as well, with all the money nintendo have made of the wii and ds they could really push the envelope this time :) heres me hoping
Well The Pokemon Company said they got dev kits for it and they said it was still in the early stages and not yet ready to release.
"The website has been told by an employee at The Pokemon Company that they have indeed received DS2 development kits - although the tech is still at a very early stage in development."

As soon as its announced and given a general release date like Fall 2010 or Spring 2011, i'm so going to gamestop and putting $200 down on a pre-order of it, hopefully with a big check i expect to get in August. So i can guarantee i get one.
We're looking at something that may have the following:
1.GameCube graphics. Perhaps 480x272 screens? Would nintendo pull a 320x240 on us? I hope not.
2. Only one touch screen, since it will use that force feedback rumble stylus potentially which i think is cool, kinda rules out multi-touch
3. At least 1-2GB internal memory, new DS online shop, either SD or Micro SD slot.
4. Two cameras have to be there, i say keep them VGA to keep costs down, putting in 1.3MP or 2MP is pretty useless.
5. bigger screens, i'm thinking 3.5-3.8 (like the Go) is the sweet spot
6. Bigger and longer game card, hopefully at least 2GB and going up to 4/8GB if devs need it
don't know yet
1. Will it have any analog sticks? I'd like at least one while the touch screen acts as a virtual second, but two would be awesome so 3 dimensional movement in Super Mario 64 DS or Super Mario Sunshine DS2 wouldn't suck.
2. Wireless N. If there's no 3G option we need more WiFi options
3. Unify Nintendo online with DS2/Wii 2 with one system, either one friend code per system and none for games or no FCs at all. If nintendo doesn't fix FCs with DS2 they likely won't with Wii 2 so thats another 5-6 years we'll have to deal with it
4.Will it have dual CPUs again? Even if the thing has one 500Mhz CPU like GameCube it doesn't mean anything if the CPU has to split resources between two screens trying to display 3D models in 480x272....so that'd be 250Mhz each screen at best if the game is 3D on both screens meaning not even PS2 level. (or even PSP level since its been 333Mhz for a few years now)
5. RAM. Will they skimp out and give it 24MB-32MB like the GCN? Maybe 40MB? or go with mobile standards and pack 128MB into it?
All i know is nintendo won't make it over $199, BUT its gotta be in the $149-$199 range with everything pointing @ $199, maybe an outside chance of $179.
I'd say maybe $179 because if th DSi is still selling so well then, making it only $10 more will get pretty much all consumers thinking about getting DSi just switch to DS2 at time of purchase.
although i think they need to cut out the DS Lite before DS2 release.
4 SKUs at retail? Ugh nintendo. You've made it work but Apple knows it doesn't always work (with the $400 iTouch always selling so much lower than the others, even the $300 does)

Graphics aren't everything and they're a business. They've got to make the most possible profit from each unit sold while still putting enough money into it to make a product fans want to buy
If that means selling the DS2 for $200 when it costs $100 to make each unit with PSP level tech, so be it
Nintendo will bring quality games no matter what, and most third parties will probably follow suit to the DS2
[QUOTE="darth-pyschosis"]Nintendo could put out beast handheld graphics with all their profits but I guess they just dont like their fans yeah, because they're so evil, they make sure they don't get money from their fans! because you know, nintendo has nothing better to do other than be evil to their fans.As soon as its announced and given a general release date like Fall 2010 or Spring 2011, i'm so going to gamestop and putting $200 down on a pre-order of it, hopefully with a big check i expect to get in August. Im not saying they are being evil just greedy, they obivously put profits first and for all the flack Sony and MS get atleast they didnt go down nintedo's pathghost392
What path?
The path of most successful handheld ever with the most critically acclaimed software library and most affordable price point?
So you're saying they should have done what MS did: Destroy the Zune brand with no support and bury any excitement for WinMo over 3 years with little changes and incremental updates
Or Sony: don't even try to help get third parties on board with PSP, and sell much less than the DS?
The DS has the most good games this handheld gen, no doubt. Opinions vary. But overall most gamers, casuals, and critics agree, if you love gaming you own a DS
So how that pathis bad i dunno.
