I don't think I will skip the first generation 3DS because It is already thin enough, it does all the stuff the DSi does and more and it has a larger screen then the DSi that is good enough for me to get a 1st Generation 3DS.
Tough topic!
I don't usually buy the first wave of any system (at least not with the new generations). I can usually hold off a bit and wait for some post launch games to come out... BUT I don't remember being this excited for a system of any kind in such a long time! I have been hoping wishing and posting (like many people) for a handheld remake of OTT. AND THEY ARE DOING IT on the 3DS!!!....so maybe I can hold out long enough for a Zelda bundle to come out...which will happen, It happens on every handheld system...ahh the dreams of nerds.
Phat DS had obvious problems such as the brightness, it had apparent issues without having slim out to compare it with. There are no such problems with 3DS, it's already slim so to speak, therefore I'm getting it.
If they release another model with D-pad up and analogue stick down, and if there actually are 2D games I like, I will most likely buy that one too.
For the record, I'm a DS Lite owner only.
It depends on the price but I might get one as Saints Row: Drive By is coming to 3DS and I'm quite looking forward to seeing Dead or Alive 3D.
The DS lite features:How was the DS Lite "so much better" than the DS Phat? It was just a slim version.
This 3DS looks fine to carry around and it's not embarrassing to play with on the bus.
If you want to wait for the 2nd generation, that's fine with me. It's your loss.

So what if the 3DS looks fine to carry around? What if Nintendo releases something sleeker, brighter, and with a better battery life? Regardless of when you buy it you will loose something. You could buy it early, and enjoy all the games and features from the day they are avaliable. Or you could buy it a year or two later more choices in the form of limited editions, bundles, and models.
I'm most likely going to wait till the second winter holiday that the 3DS is out, by that time we'll probably have a good idea when the next model is coming (if it's not out by then) and there will be some great holidy deals going around.
I don't think brightness or battery life will be a problem with the 1st gen 3DS. The only thing I can think of is the low viewing angle for the 3D effect of the top screen. I wonder if anyone will use 3D or just turn it down?
On topic I will buy the 3DS as soon as I've bought and completed all the DS games I like. 22 to go!
I NEVER buy first year technology of any kind. I always wait til the bugs are taken care of. I may wind up getting an XL eventually (still got my PHAT).
I understand what you mean, i was on the train playin on my lite, whilst the kid opposite was playin on the phat, and i was thinking to my self, ' my god that was an ugly looking thing' xDHow was the DS Lite "so much better" than the DS Phat? It was just a slim version.

Isnt that contradictory? the fact that you say you never buy first year technology, yet you have the Nintendo phat ( which was the first kind of DS ) ;)I NEVER buy first year technology of any kind. Ok, how about I NEVER buy technology the FIRST year it comes out. :P
I was thinking about doing that - however, the 3DS looks nice as it is.
They've got the design style down -- So any other upgrade will probably be really minor.
I have a slight feeling that the 3D quality of the 3DS is going to be WAY better the second time around.
No way. The life cycle of a handheld is around, lets say, 6 years. If I were to wait for the next upgrade, i'd have to wait atleast a year. So the best case scenario if I were to wait means that I would miss out on 1/6 of the life cycle of the 3DS. And it could easily be worse, if they waited 2 years, that's 2/6 i miss out on! A THIRD of the lifecycle.
And I'm still playing my DS Phat, as the Lite isn't that much better anyway - slimmer design is a meh upgrade, the only decent upgrade is that the screen is lit up better, but I'm not gonna trade a third of my 3DS's lifecycle for a slightler better screen.
Nah this time I want to collect them all, idk why lol. All I have is a Ds of like the 4 they made haha. I'm going to play 3ds a lot. Dont wait to get it, odds are they will make screen bigger, less angle sweet spot issue fixed and maybe thinner and weigh less, ohh and better colors available. So buy it when it comes out...too many games to pass up and having to wait would suck imo.
[QUOTE="Haziqonfire"]that's what we always say until the new version is out :PI was thinking about doing that - however, the 3DS looks nice as it is.

That's true, lol.
We'll see -- I have to see what software is out at launch, if anything I really want I'll get it. If not till later, I'll wait lol.
I'm considering it, based on the fact that I missed a lot of the RPG's that I'd like to get for the DS
