is it worth paying for it

For $35 more? Hell yeah.
Not to mention you pretty much get $10 off because it comes with 1000 Nintendo Points ($10).
Noticably bigger screens, customizable menus, brighter screens, cool colors, DSiWare, and rainbow pen in Pictochat are WAYYYY worth it.
Oh yeah. I forgot about the camera part. I'm so used to it is all. :P
I'm not here to start an argument or anything but I got a DS Lite because of battery life and the GBA slot among other things. If you want a DSi then go ahead, but if you feel that it isn't worth it then get a DS Lite.flowersjfactually i already have a ds lite

well if u own a DSlite then i dont think its worth i myself have the old one and do want an updatemurat8I though it was a good update since the lite is pretty much the Phat with a smaller casing and a brigher screen.
If you have an MP3 player and a camera, don't buy it.

Unless you don't want to carry around an MP3 player, a camera, and a DS lite...in that case, get a DSi.
It's definitely worth getting, in my opinion (I love mine).
No I don't have one because it has nothing I need. 1. The DSi isn't worth it for anything when you can get a DS Lite with more useful features for 35 dollars less. 2. I will keep it. I never implied one had to get rid of their Lite to buy a DSi, either. 3. Thanks, you're a great guy too. But I guess your username explains the blind rage at the suggestion the DSi might be crap, so I probably don't have to point out the fanboyism your post reeks of.I'm guessing you don't have one because
1. the dsi is worth it for gameing
2. if you like your ds lite so much keep it nobody said you had to get rid of it
3. you are an ass

It' great if you either have another way to play GBA games or don't have any GBA games.Otherwise you're paying 35 bucks more for a Lite minus one of the two features that make the DS worth owning. The DSi is just gimmicky crap if you have GBA games and no other way to play them. The cameras aren't needed, the mp3 player isn't that good, and the DSi's store is just a way for Nintendo to screw you over by making it so you can't play your old games and trying to sell you digital copies of them.Envoy_of_Wolves
If you don't haveunnecessary hatred towards it, the DSi's great in general.
So, I guess, faster load times, better wifi connectivity(DSi Software only), a noticeably larger screen, the music player, the camera, the photo editor, the DSiWare Shop, the improved speakers, the dramatically improved OS, the stain resistant casing, exclusive/enhanced titles, and all the other changes/improvements mean nothing... The GBA slot wasn't one of the features that made the DS worth owning, imo. The DS's library aloneis more than enough to make it worthwhile. And considering what Nintendo will be releasing on the DSiWare Shop, it'll make a worthy replacement. The DSi is going to have it's own exclusive retail games and I've already heard devs stating that they'll be making some(Ubisoft, Renegade Kid, etc.).
The DSi is goodfor those want it. That's like saying the PSP Go is junk because you like UMD's. Neither device was made for those infatuated with the older models. They're for those who want something different.
The camera's have proven to be very good input methods for games(photo textures, augmented reality, user motion sensing, etc.) Devs will have other great uses in the future.Plus, the photo editormakes the camera a little more fun forpersonal use.DSi Sound is arguably just as good as any music player, even though it only plays one format(and it's a very good one). High quality audio and a nice set of features to accompany it(like an instrumental mode) make it quite nice to have. DSi Sound is not called a music player because that's just ONE of it's uses. It's for sounds, music or otherwise. Nintendo has listed some uses and there's plenty more beyond that. A popular animation tool, Moving Memo(Flipnote Studios in the US), can use recordings stored in DSi Sound for the animations. It also can use the camera. The DSiWare Shop is actually Nintendo's way of distributing software that can't be released on a cartridge, such as apps, small games, demos, and enhanced versions of pre-existing titles.
yeah, they aren't like those xbox things (always overheating)
the only way it'll get too hot for you is if you keep them in your hands too long, and even then, your sweaty palms will cool you down

I'm with you. I get $350 (AUD) in a couple of days and I'm buying the Lite. The DSi is $300 compared to the lites $200 and the only features it has that I like is the larger screens, which I would happily shell out the extra $100 for the minor size difference, but the GBA slot was the deal maker. Battery life isn't a big issue for me, but is a cool bonus, and now I can spend an extra $100 on games. DSi-ware games give me the impression of Xbox Live Arcade games, which I've never been into, and I can't see big titles being released that way as developers wouldn't make near as much money selling them for the DSi only.
Even if a big title was released for DSi-Ware, it doesn't quite match the lineup of GBA games I could be playing instead. People will give the argument that if you have GBA games play them on a GBA. Well I have a phone & Ipod, so I have no need for the DSi's camera & media support via SD slot.
Sure, it's good. I wouldn't get a DSi if I already had a DS Lite though, unless you want to let your friends use your old DS Lite while you play multiplayer games; you know, if they don't have a DS when they come over.

For that much, I'd just import a $180 new DSi off eBay. ;P

$180's a steal. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it had the GBA slot.

i dunno, but my mobile has a much better camera than the dsi, and no game that interests me doesnt really use it. i think the whole camera idea was really a poor effort from nintendo. and the bigger screen: it still has the same resolution, so its not such a big improvement. i decided to get the ds lite 2 months ago instead of the dsi for 30 euros more and i dont regret it.[QUOTE="Envoy_of_Wolves"] It' great if you either have another way to play GBA games or don't have any GBA games.Otherwise you're paying 35 bucks more for a Lite minus one of the two features that make the DS worth owning. The DSi is just gimmicky crap if you have GBA games and no other way to play them. The cameras aren't needed, the mp3 player isn't that good, and the DSi's store is just a way for Nintendo to screw you over by making it so you can't play your old games and trying to sell you digital copies of them.freakbabyblues

$180 is the price.
I'm not even going to get into the GBA thing because meiaman's going to pop outta nowhere and repremand me. D;
If you are fresh to the DS scene right now, and you don't own any GBA games, then this ones obvious. The DSi is the way to go. Its a fun system with some decent features and some of the best games you can get on a handheld.
If you've already purchased some form of DS, I'd stick with that for now. The features on the DSi are nice, but for me they aren't persuasive enough for me to drop that kind of money on it right now. This isn't the next handheld from Nintendo, this is just the next evolution for the DS.
I'm guessing that this will be the last version of the system but I could be wrong. My money would be the next step being Nintendo finally bringing out the next handheld. Its been around for a while now, and its a good system, but the horizon is getting closer and with competition from both Sony and now Apple, it would seem prudent that they get started on their next iteration of handheld.

Customs charges and shipping would make up the difference. There's no point. Please Log In to post.
