With the lack of launch specials and the way that titles quickly lower in price does it make Wii owners worry less about getting a game at launch?

A perfect example is Little King's Story. Even some of the biggest fans of the game are waiting to get the game because they think they'll get it for half price or less in just a few months.

Is there a real incentive to get Wii games at launch if users aren't given anything extra?

We saw Shaun White Snowboarding have exclusive content from Target giving the user 25% more content but since then no other dev has really jumped on it and given something to convince users to spend money day one.

Even first party games that usually stay launch price for the entire generation have taken many dips into the 30's (US DOLLAR MONEY TIME)

We saw Gamespot themselves report that Wii games drop in price faster then anything else

So is it better to wait a few weeks for the Wii titles and get more games for your dollar?

I usually wait due to financial reasons to be honest unless it's a game that I must have. The Conduit being an example of the later.

I enough enough to keep me occupied for the time being, so I can definitely wait.

What would happen if games at launch had either content or freebies or that sort of thing

Would that entice you to get more games at launch?

I don't wait. It hurts the devs when you wait for a drop, and they have less money for their next game. That's reason enough for me to buy at full price: I like good games.

But also, I want to play the games NAO!

it's possible.

I'm an old school gamer, I don't care if I get an extra costume, etc. Just give me a solid experience along with great looks, and I'm content. Online multiplayer is also a good reason to pick up a game at launch as well. Everyone who is going to buy the game, and play seriously online will most likely buy it at launch. That way you all get better with eachother, and don't get your ass handed to you if you jump in 6 months late.

It would also depend on the game. I had no interest in Shaun White, and they offered special versions of that like you mentioned.

The only games I buy right when they come out are online-multi-player games......and well wii more or less dosent have any of them. I wait on wii but on othe consoles like my PS3 or 360 I buy them at launch. Only exception are mario, zelda and metroid games.

For most games, it's worth waiting. I recently bought De Blob, Deadly Creatures, and Animal Crosssing for $20 each. These are three games that I seriously considering buying at full price upon release. I saved myself $90 by waiting a few months.

I understand that it hurts the developers to not support the game at release, but these savings speak for themselves and I can't justify throwing $20-$30 away just to feel better about supporting the industry. I can buy double the amount of games I would normally if I simply wait a bit. And for someone like me that buys tons of games, that's huge. I do make it a point to not buy games used unless they are no longer being produced, so at least I help the industry in that way.

When it comes to top first party games, I do buy them when they launch. The same is true for some top third party games.

Depends on how much I'm interested in the game. Wal Mart gave me a 10 dollar gift card with my pre-order of Wii Sports Resort so that's good too. :)

Exactly. The Grinder will be a day one purchase for me, but LKS most likely won't -- I'll either wait for the price to drop or a buy one get one half price deal.

I'm an instant gratification kind of girl so I try and buy games I want as soon as they come out. Most of the games that I personally have bought for myself (DDR, Rock Band 2, Wiifit, SMG) haven't gone down in price anyway so there is no point in me waiting.

As the source for cheap games around here, I will say this.

Don't buy a title brand new if you're not going to play it the same day. If you are, then yes the full price is the way to go, but if you wait even one week you are wasting money.

That was how long it takes some games (eg. Munchables, Kororinpa 2) to lower $10 from MSRP. IF a game doesnt do this, wait exactly a month and it will be half off (SEGA games are notorious for this).

And as for importance, buying a game the first week in fact HURTS long-term sales, since most companies are convinced that Wii games are supposed to have long-tail, nobody talks about a Wii game they bought first day (even I stopped mentioning my import NMH), but there are always reports of Phoenix Wright/ Wii Fit/ Mario Kart sales patterns on all the gaming blogs.

So do them a favor and get them in the news, free advertising is way better for a budget than an extra $20.

same here. i worked long and hard and even to stopped playing games while I finished school. now i'm old and chillin' if I want it I get it. If a game catches me a little but I'm not sure I'll wait for it. . sometimes I grab it other times my gaming attention is held by a different title and that game I was waiting for never gets played.

gamestop sold this game two days earlier then target did. I went for the early version over the extra content :D

I wait. I can afford to buy games at launch, but being the cheapo that I am, I usually wait for the games to drop in price. Waiting for the price to drop hurts the developer in the end, but I refuse to shell out $50 bucks a game for every new release that I want. I do support certain developers that I follow, so I will buy those games at launch price to support their work.

If it's a game that I'm a fan of and really really want I try to get it as soon as possible (hopefully sometime during launch week, but life doesn't always work out the way you want it to). If not, then I'll get it later on. And as for games that I don't absolutely have to have, I usually wait for those to price drop.

Kinda sorta both choices: If it is a Mario or Zelda game I do not wait. Everything else will not see a penny from me until it drops in price. That's how I roll.

No, but I prefer to that way if I dont like it I can return it and get more money back than if I bought it and sold it later.

The Wii is more of a secondary console to me so I wait on most games. It is not the price though it is just not many games really make me want to get them right away. Zelda is the only thing I know I will get first day.

Its no more or less important than any system, its simply about how much patience you have, a commercially succesful game will take awhile to drop in price, i.e. Galaxy, Mario Kart while commercial failures will drop quickly probably like LKS. However if your really hyped for a game you will get it as soon as possible, if you can wait then you wait. its the same for every system, like I waited months for DMC4 and over a year for Heavnly Sword to drop on the PS3. I waited for the 360 to drop in general.

My answer is also one that varies, depending on the game. If it's a game I know I'll enjoy, I'll get it as soon as possible. If it's a game I'm on the fence about, I'll wait... not so much for the price to drop, but for me to have a greater reason in purchasing a game. For example, if I think I could use a new game at the moment, I'm usually more willing to take a risk. A price drop only means that a game simply isn't having as much as a demand, but I don't let that be the only factor when determining what game I get. I like to think that when I buy a game, it'll be worth the price. Otherwise, I definitely wouldn't bother with it.

Nintendo made products do not drop in price until after a few years, so I figure I may as well get it at launch. 3rd party titles on the other hand I wait until a price drop.

Example: I'm still waiting for a price drop on Guitar Hero Metallica. I've been analyzing these games at Wal Mart. Guitar Hero 3 took one year for it to drop by $10. Guitar Hero World Tour has dropped by $10 in four months time after release and is still at that price range today. Guitar Hero Aerosmith on the other hand went from $60 (yeah, the initial price for Aerosmith on the Wii, not bundled, was $60) to $20 in one year's time. I supspected Metallica to follow the same lines of Aerosmith, but Metallica has been out for 3 months and hasn't dropped in price yet.

For first party title like Mario, Metroid, F-zero, Pilotwings, Wave Race, and Star Fox, I will buy close to launch. Everything else, no way. As you can tell I haven't bought crap at launch because well, Nintendo has not been so kind to release the top tier games that I enjoy the most. Then again I don't buy much for PS3 or 360 either. Most gamesI end up not liking orthiking that the game was ok but not really worth the money so I buy used and then return the gamea week later. Yes I know that is wrong and bad, but most the time I just find every game kind of meh.

Yes, I wait. Nintendo games though you have to wait over a year or get lucky on a 25-50% off sale seeming even TP (Twilight Princess, not Toilet Paper like most would think) still sells at $50... Anyhow. I wait for at least a $10-$20 drop for just about every game that doesn't look really amazing to me...

It really depend on the games price and quality.

But generally i really could care less about hurting the devs or whatever,i care about the best games i can get for a certain price and the best quality.

I'm not paying full price for your game? then you know what to do next time, make a better game and i may reconsider or accept the money i give you for it.

Speaking of Little King's Story i sure as hell am not gonna pay 60$ (CAD) for the time being when i can get some great games for 30$ on the PS3.

I usually wait, unless it's a game I really want. Like SMG or Zelda: TP, I got them day one, and it would have been no use waiting for a price drop, because I haven't seen one. But third party games, like de Blob or Zack and Wiki or Madworld, I do wait for a price drop as I know one will happen quick. Zack and Wiki was only 14.99, 2 months after release and same with de Blob when I got it in December, and now Madworld is already 24.99 where I live. So for first party games, I just buy them when I have the money. Third party, I tend to wait.

I usually do wait, and it's mostly for financial reasons. I haven't been able to really buy a game in a long time. Unless it's a game such as a new Zelda, Mario or Metroid, I'll just end up waiting. Some games like Mario, they can be hard to come across for the first little while so it's good to pre-order them.

Sometimes, it really depends. I haven't gotten LKS yet, but that's because I'm going to go buy it on the 26th with Wii Sports Resort. Also, I haven't gotten around to getting Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, which I plan to get soon.

I wait, but that's only because I don't have the money to buy games on day one. And even if the price drops, chances are I still don't have the money to buy 'em. I'd love to buy 'em, but there are other things that take priority.

They drop the price quickly? When did this start happening?

And if I've been anticipating a game's release for a year or more, I really don't feel saving $10-$30 USD and owning a used copy is worth waiting two months.

You used to have good ideas, Jasonguy. Now you just complain a lot.

Why wait? I look at it like what is the big deal about waiting 3 months to get a really great game only to save 10 bucks.

Yes and No. It all depends on the Game. For example, Ghostbusters I bought that the day it came out but Super Smash Brothers Brawl I finally bought a few months ago.
