Are people going to cuss on Wi Speak?

So, there's a lot of profanity, racism, sexual harassment and hostile talking going on in multiplayer games, especially since voice chat came by. Xbox Live and PSN are good (?) examples of that as well as most multiplayer PC games.

Nintendo has always tried to avoid this issue by eliminating text chat from its internally developed games and postponing release of a voice-comm device. Now that Wii Speak is coming and will allow players to voice-chat during games, do you think Wii users will abuse it the way some 360 and PS3 users are abusing similar devices?

In other words: will we hear cussing and swearing when playing our Wiis?

I'd bet money that all Wii Speak-enabled games would use friend codes, so if you have friends that swear a lot (or just trade friend codes with random people on internet message boards), then yes, you would hear such things.PoindeJ

Well you find idiots no matter what console it is, so I'm going to say yes, you'll find idiots saying stupid things with Wii Speak.

However... mostly everyone will be adding their friends or people they know to whatever game that supports Wii Speak so I dont think it'll be a big issue.

Probably not as much as over to the 360/Ps3/Pc owners, but there will always be that motha*** %&$# *@%$# $%&@@ who %^&#* for $#^* all the %($&%*( *$&% time!!1!

i use profanity to throw people off their game but i'd rather not have a random idiot using profane, racial slurs, and sexual harassment on me just cuz i beat him/herirongutvi

So it's okay for you to use profanities, but it's wrong when other people do?

Anyway, even if Nintendo does make it fc only, that won't stop the cussing, it'll just allow you to see who is doing it. I do realize that it is still the better option though.

They have warnings, age restriction labels, parental locking, and how can we forget the good old "why not take a break?" for the fat kids???

seriously...I don't understand what other pre-cautions Nintendo or any other Video Game manufacturer would need to take. If parents or Nintendo themselves are soooo concerned about Cursing, why doesn't someone tell them about how you can surf the net and watch PORN!

I want a way that users can be tagged and then punished by Nintendo. That's what I'm really hoping for because Nintendo doesn't screw around, you report someone and they're suspended and then maybe 2 more and they're banned from all online interactions except the Shop Channel.

If developers start allowing games where you can play with anyone there's a good chance you'll run into these degenerate dirtbags, hopefully they'll be a way to remedy it so they pay the price for not evolving.

Well I think completely banning somebody would be very harsh. Maybe banning voice chat would be a more reasonable option. There could be a few problems though...

If they aren't using any swear words and they are simply making fun of somebody for being bad at a game or they are simply being too loud, people might report them and just say they were swearing. Enough of this and they get their voice chat capabilities taken away without them ever uttering a single swear word.

Nintendo would just have to take their word for what happened since I doubt that they are going to record every game with voice chat. People might even report people if they are sore losers and think "this guy's too good...if i can't beat him, i'll just report him!"

I do think there should be some form of punishment. Maybe just temporary bans. But saying people "haven't evolved" for using swear words isn't necessarily true since I have several college professors that swear during classes.

I agree, people might even report you if they're angry because you beat them.

There should have to be multiple reports and/or just an increasing time in suspension each time, but not a full ban.

maybe a word filtering system. wii speak microphone recognizes a swear word and BLEEEP!!!DJSAV_101

If they did that they would have to run the words through a program before they reached the other person thus causing a delay in the words. It would also probably be TOO filtering since it's Nintendo and you couldn't even say "idiot" or "stupid". Plus people's accent all sound different so the filter would have to cover every accent and dialect. Plus there's slang to consider. It would just be very complicated and probably wouldn't work the way they wanted it to. That really only works with text unfortunately...

I definitely agree with jaysonguy on that 'evolving' thing. I've been both student and teacher and I consider teachers that swear during classes no more than mindless apes.

I agree with Ospov. I don't think teachers should swear in class, but intelligence is not inversely related to cussing. To think otherwise is simply unjustifiable and extremely judgmental.

I see no point in it but i can careless from the news that i heard microsoft is adding a editing software to block out people cuss so maybe nintendo will do that alsoelbert_b_23

I hope not, that would just make things even more annoying and would likely have many problems when it is released.
