I don't play my Wii on an HD-TV so I don't think the component cables would be compatible with my TV. So I was wondering if it's worth it to buy S-Video cables instead. Apparently they're supposed to be the next best thing.

Ehhh, even if you don't have an HDTV component cables can still work
I'd make sure you can't use component before you buy anything else.

I'd get them if my tv had an extra audio output so I could still use my surround sound with these.

Yes, if it's at least EDTV. Forgot to mention that. Otherwise, yah...go for the S-Vid.

I have s-video cables on my Wii, and it makes a noticable improvement in both color brightness and in sharper details.  That being said, I think $30 for any s-video cable is a complete rip off.  I got mine at Best Buy for only $20, and they work perfectly. Shoot, Best Buy is even selling their Wii Component cable for only $25!  Gamestop is trying to rip you guys off.

I currently have component cables on my Wii and have an HDTV.. However, I use S-video for my PS2 and I noticed a BIG difference from standard A/V. The words on the screen were sharper and more legible and colors are more brighter. If you don't have an HDTV, I would highly recommend s-video. It is worth it and the best you can do for what you currently have..
