they do seem extremely pointless
you cant even use it to insert photos from memory sticks, cameras, phones, etc. you need to use an SD (nintendo Laziness)

You would need to install drivers for them, but the wii is not a pc.
And they're already used for wired internet connections.
Supposedly Nintendo is planning to use them for External USB saving, for USB Mouse/Keyboard (according to Willi.org)
Also... it can be used for any pheripheral that you can think of! I think, Boogey?...uses the USB for a headset...
And they are used for the LAN adapter...Â

Not really. Most external USB storage device (along with most USB input devices) are designed to operate using only preinstalled driver sets, or "profiles".
Hense I can plug my USB flash drive into my 360 or linux based computer, or plug my camera into a school computer (which has anti-installation software) without ever having to install jack.Â
I'd really like to plug a keyboard into the wii so i can type faster. but as long as the wii is avoiding open lobby style online play it won't be vital, it would make the internet channel alot more worthwhile though. I also like the idea of external memory. People say the wii is going to be replaced in only a couple of years, i disagree. The controls are really specific wii has legs.
