Before I start I would like to say I am not asking for a recommendation, I just want to know if these games are any good. (pros and cons would be nice.)

So are the games Actraiser, Contra III: The Alien Wars, and Super Castlevania any good???

Actraiser = YES. I can not stress on how unique that game is.

I was always more of a Castlevania X on the Snes. I know it was a bad port, but I still love it more than Super Castlevania.

Did you play on them? If not, go download them.

I played on Contra 3 and Super Castlevania IV. Both are awesome.

SCIV is the best Castlevania to appear on a Nintendo console, and, seeing as I haven't played Rondo I can't really say this but, the best Castlevania of all time.

Have all three games, love all three games. I would actually have to say that Contra 3 is my favorite out of all of them, but if normal mode is too difficult you can adjust the number of lives and difficulty until you get used to it. The top-down levels are very difficult to get used to, so I recommend you try playing with a friend to get through them the first few times, till you get down the enemy patterns.

It's also neat just to see how the weapons perform whenever you play on easy mode - chains of shots just poring out of a regular gun, waves of bullets with the machine gun, huge fireballs with the flamethrower...just stronger and at a much faster rate of fire. I should mention though, if you play on easier modes in a Contra game, you may not have access to certain levels and bosses and endings that you may otherwise have access to. Likewise, playing with like 1 life on the highest difficulty could yield some rewards, but I don't know so don't take my full word for that.

If you have a DS, buy Contra 4 instead of Contra III on the VC. Once you beat Contra 4, you unlock the first three Contra games. The other 2 games are all worth a download, especially Actraiser.

Interesting... 3 of the only SNES games I downloaded. They are all classics of the SNES era. Actraiser was a launch title. It is good. It mixes platforming and kind of a simplified city builder all mixed around an ok story for the time. The platforming doesn't have mid-air control though... so it is difficult for most to get use to. You probably won't want to replay it a bunch. Contra 3. Awesome. One of the best shooters / platformers on the SNES IMO. It can be hard. It is fun two player as well, if you both know what you are doing. Has high scores and if you start on easy you can just keep going after you beat one difficulty level to the next level. So it can be really long to see how far you can get before you lose without continues. Super Castlevania, another near launch title, is just regular castlevania with SNES graphics and effects. It is pretty fun too if you like the whip platformer. Most of Castlevania comes from the 'series' hype... which is ok, but I was never into it a lot. If I were to rank them, 3. Castlevania 2. Actraiser 1. Contra 3. Just my take.

I heard you can only unlock Contra and Super C in it? Anyways it's still worth it to have it on vc, since its easier to play 2p and all that way.

I have play Contra 3 and Super CV 4...

contra was a while ago thus... but is one of the best shooters, hard yes.. but amazing.

Super CV 4.. well... see my sig :P review about it There you would find all pro and cons (do not worry I love the series but I try to be as object as possible.. I also have the CV1 review just in case, thus that one I just recommened for fan of the series)

hope that helps.. enjoy gaming

They are both old-school games, so do not expect a game like the ones of now at days (do not know if you are into old-school games) but if you are up for some hard, challeging old school those are great options :)

I have Contra 4, you only unlock the first two Contra's not all three.

And to Chang_1910 hel* ya Im up tp the challange, games now-a-days are too easy for me. And like I just said I have Contra 4. After playing that game I now know what the definition of HARD means.
