So this new wild west Wiiware game (http://www.wiiware-world.com/reviews/2008/08/wild_west_guns) got me thinking again: will the Wii ever have on-rail shooting games that work like actual light-gun games? I mean, where you're shooting at actual points on a screen (ie Duck Hunt), rather than just controlling a cursor? I think I read that Ghost Squad has a calibration feature that allows for this, but all the screenshots and videos I've seen have a cursor...

So is this actually possible? Or is the Wiimote simply not capable of acting as a lightgun? It's really a shame to be playing Duck Hunt-sty.le (sty.le is a banned word now, apparently) games with less functionality than we had back in 1985.

Ghost Squad does do it, and it has those lovely calibration screens too.

Although some games have calibration tools to make it more accurate, the Wii-mote will never be as accurate as a light gun because it is not one. You'll always need a cursor for rail shooters on the Wii.

The motionplus will hopefully help with shooter accuracy.

Umbrella Chronicles is strictly cursor control only, no calibration.

That is what I thought. But then I realized that with the motion plus attached, wouldn't the controller no longer fit into guns like the Perfect Shot?

How could Motion Plus possibly improve the accuracy of the Wiimote's IR?

The motion plus won't effect the accuracy at all. shooting game on Wii use the IR lights on the sensor bar the determine where your pointing. the Motion Plus has nothing to do with the sensor bar and simply just lets the Wii itself pick up your movements in 3D space more accurately :)

I hope that made sense :P

I play House of the dead 2 and 3 with a friend just as good with the cursors turned off or on after setting the calibration right.

Always? But I thought people just said that Ghost Squad and House of the Dead work without it?

RE Umbrella Chronicleslink027

I wish. That's the best rail-shooter I've ever played. It would be perfect if you could play without cursors.
