In the market for a new game and I have found two possibiltiies. Avalon Code and Chrono Trigger.

My main problem is that while both of these games have gotten great reviews, I consider myself a casual gamer, especially when it comes to RPGs. With that in mind would I be better off going away from both of these games to something else (action or puzzle-liek Broken Sword)? Woudl either of these games be a good game for a casual gamer to kidn fo get theirfeet wet and possible move them to want to try and get more into RPGs? Or woudl ther be another RPG that I may want to consider to use as a launch pad to possibly becoming morecomfortable with RPGs?

I recommend you use the recommendation thread before this one gets locked. :)

Only problem with that is no one really replys. I asked about Avalon code a few days ago and never really got any responses. i think people are not going to the recommendation board to actually give recommendations. It seems there are more questions asking for recommendations then there are actual recommendations recently.

Well, if you stop a bit and check the actual recommendations on older pages, you will see that everyone will recomendate the same thing: Chrono trigger, FFIV, TWEWY... So its pointless to go and just ask, because everyone will say pretty much the same thing.

And people stopped wasting their time recommendating to people who just keep asking the same questions, but for some reason are too lazy to check the previous 30 pages that contain the same answers that they have answered before. (Lol). With that said, go check the recommendation thread, but just to not let you without nothing, i would recommend Chrono Trigger.

I would say get Chrono Trigger.

The battle system is very different than other games, you will probably be surprised by how monsters act in battle. Once I saw a desperate monster attack a fellow monster for health! Another time a dragon threw a monster at me for an unorthodox attack!

Time is also a huge factor in the game. You travel in time to go to the future, past, and present. What is also surprising is that everything flows. By that I mean that if a person told you to wait for him to make you something, chances are you can see him do the task in front of you. Different text when he's doing a certain thing, different movements for a certain job, and if tells you to wait then if you actually wait he will probably be done. It's just awesome! Everything just unfolds in front of you. While people are talking you can move around. Everything is very involved and time based.

From a standpoint CT doesn't look that story driven. Since you can get a large cast in Chrono Trigger, you can only have 3 members in your party. The princess you meet in the beginning might seem like the female main character but for the rest of the game she can just be a shadow of Crono. When you think about it, that's the best part of the game. You can get them involved in the story by having them with you at all times, or just disregard them once you meet them. There are like 12 - 16 possible endings, I believe.

I can't vouch much for Avalon Code since I haven't played it, but Chrono Trigger is a classic any RPG fan should experience.

I haven't played either one, although I am leaning toward Avalon Code. One I do recommend for the casual player is Puzzle Quest. An excellent game with lots of replayability and a decent storyline. (I prefer a good story with my game.)

I played the original Puzzle Quest an dloved it. I looked into the new one, but am in the mood for something with more action rather than puzzle right now. I know people have been pushing CT becuase of it's history and I never had a chance to play it. So that is why I was thinking of picking it up. Avalon Code intrgiues me with the whole code system. My only concern was that with being a casual gamer that it coudl get overwhelming later in the game

Out of the Two I would choose Avalon code. who doesn't like hitting people with books and solving little puzzles? Avalon Code is good. Chono Trigger is just a remake with an alternate ending, they didnt even enhance teh graghics from the original. If your into hardcore RPG's and Classics, then get that.

Honostly, I believe that you should get Professor Layton and the Curious Village. It's a awesome puzzler for the casual gamer and will leave you falling asleep thinking about how to solve a riddle. Trust me this game is a MUST play.

Have fun ^.^

And I agree with the Reccomendation thread. I think they should make asub- section for reccomendations, not a thread because threads get too messy. The moderators of the forums should group all the most common threads in one sub-section, Kinda like how DS, PSP, WII ect are in thier own section. It would be cleaner I think :)

imo of course.

Prof Layton I picked up as soon as it came out. I loved the game. It did make you think about the puzzles even when you were not playing. I keep hoping that at some point they decide to release the sequel in the US.

Let me make ur day and tell you that they are in fact planning on releasing the next game in US. it was announced a week or so ago, there is a thread about it somewhere in the forums lol.

But yes it is true, and should be coming out probably next year but don't quote me on it.

btw TryBroken Sword, It has some puzzles and kinda reminded me of Prof. Layton.

Thanks.

I remember playing Broken Sword on my GB years ago. i had looked at that too, but was not sure if I wanted to go with a text/puzzler game this time around. I have heard good things about the remake, but was not sure if it was worth the $30.

Avalon Code. I played the demo and it seems fun. You're a casual gamer so I doubt you'd like Chrono Trigger.

I'm a flippin' hardcore-ish gamer and that game was booooooring.

So yeah. Anything but Chrono Trigger.

I thought there was a lot more effort needed to play Avalon Code than Chrono Trigger. CT is more of a traditional RPG with leveling and such, Avalon Code is action-based. So... it really depends on what you like. Avalon Code is different and interesting though, you can manipulate everything by adjusting their "code."

As for the recommendation thread, I rarely check it (maybe I should start), but I do try to answer people's recommendation requests when I see them in individual threads.
