Ok, so I got my DS last Winter, and it has a very weird problem that won't allow me to play games very well.

Basically, I can't get the DS to turn on 90 percent of the time. I'll turn it on, and the green lgith will come on, but the screen will remain black. Sometimes it will get to the logo screen and freeze, and sometimes I'll be able to play a DS game for five minutes (maximum) and it will freeze. The exception is GBA games, which, if I'm able to reach the main DS menu without it freezing, won't freeze.

I don't think I've mistreated the DS in any way, I keep it in a case and everything, and this doesn't seem to be a very common problem. It's a Cobalt DS Lite, by the way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely, definitely, definitely send it back to Nintendo. This is clearly a manufacturing issue and not a problem due to abuse. Depending on how long you've had it now, you should hopefully get it fixed for free. Anyway, call them and see if you can do that -- if not, the repair/replacement will probably cost 50 bucks.
