I have a problem with some of the bigger clunkers on the VC.  Looking at Gamespot reviews, 28 VC games got a review of less than 5.  I know that they are obviously primative compared to today's standards, but considering they have 5 or so systems to draw from you'd expect them all to be the best of the best of those systems in a realization that to draw a gamer away from all of the other choices presented to them, that 10 year old game better have something special to it.  Now I know that Nintendo's not gonna flood VC with the best right away, but give us at least some quality control.

I guess my bigger issue is that while I can read a review and see which of these old and sometimes obscure games suck, many gamers do not (for whatever reason).  So the poor gamer buys one of these VC games for $8, sits down for the 5-10 minutes it takes to realize that there was no reason for anyone ever to come back to this game, and then proceeds to look for his next fix (which is probably another VC game).

Can anyone convince me that this isn't just a ploy from nintendo to extract money from uneducated consumer?

If you're not responsible with your money, why should nintendo care?  They are just giving you access not making you buy it.  I'll never understand why people would not research something that is so easy to find.

Yes and No.

Yes for the new gamers that don't know what games are. I think old school gamers like me must help these new gamers for their choices. I will say avoid titles like Baseball, Tennis, Legend of Kage, ... to them and that's the no for your question. The no is for the old school gamers will choose the best titles in the list. They have played on most of these titles so they know them.

I'm mainly thinking of young kids, who are most likely to buy the wii.  They dont' know better.  But you're right, if you're dumb enough to buy the game, you deserve what you get (that's why I just get emulations).  Personally, I'd like to sit down to my VC and when I'm browsing games, if I see something I've never heard of before, I would like to have enough faith in Nintendo's selections that it was probably a forgotten gem rather than a game that was garbage even when it was originally released.  I just don't see how this trend benefits the system or gamer in any way.  I do see how it benefits Nintendo's payroll.

Quite a number of people like Legend of Kage because of how hard it is. Plus five bucks isn't that big of a deal. Also you got a freacking internet access look up reviews from multiple sites.

People must be responsible for their own money. And no one is making them download them.

Wonderful point.

In this day and age there are dozens of places you can research whatever game you want. If you fail to be a responsible consumer then the only person to blame is yourself. Maybe if you make the mistake of rushing into a purchase and getting burned once you may do the work you should have done when you buy your second title.

Splatter House looked and sounded great with some good reviews here and there but it still stunk. Gunstar Heroes was another, everyone hyped it, got good reviews and I even like side scrolling shooters but I felt underwhelmed and totally ripped off by it.

Gamespot rated Splatterhouse as "poor"

Gunstar Heroes is the type of game like Metal Slug and other over the top shooters except GH also has an anime feel to it.

Now that's not saying you did a poor job with Gunstar Heroes, there's always the case that sometimes you just get a fluke title that you think you'll love and you don't like but the odds are greatly in your favor in this day and age that you'll pick a title you're happy with.

when they were released, both were quality games, some just age differently.

Nintendo is biding their time waiting for later in the year (*cough* summer *cough*), because that is when many kids will get a Wii or already own a Wii besides in the summer many more people than usual will be playing instead of having to deal with school.

Why do you think this is Nintendo fault?  It's really just the people that actually purchase these titles.

I know thats my point, so many people like it and the reviews were good so I thought ''hey I'll spend my money on this it'll be great!''. Turned out bad for me.

So why should we care if you are just some oddball? The supposed stinkers in the reviews may just be the most fun games for you the oddball while to 99% of non oddballs they don't suck. Welcome to life and taste.

Stop being a prick he's probably trying to explain that reviews don't always help.
