you haven't played many dq games then most of them besides 3 and 1 had a good plots especially DQ V. Boy was i surprised at its story. I think DQIX won't beat V's story especially that reviews are saying the IX lacks character development.

I just started playing Tales of Innocence so far the plot is decent the gameplay is what makes this game stand out from other ds rpgs. I am about 25 hours into dragon quest 9 there isnt much of a story with it but i still think it is a phenomenal game
Agree on the TWEWY suggestion. It's a really good game. It had me hooked for days until I finished. I'm currently enjoying Tales of Innocence a lot. It's in japanese, but there's a full english patch available. Also, try Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor. I like the survival/apocalyptical stuff. And fusing demons rocks. Really like your avatar, seems that I'm not the only person that likes Chrono Cross.
I actually liked the plot of Atelier Annie and Lost in Blue. There's no big saving the world plot, for once. :P One just deals with a lazy main character and you have to shape her up into a respectable member of society and the other one deals with just getting out of island.
oh wait just thought of another plot I liked...does Phoenix Wright count as an RPG?
