My son has Pokemon Diamond DS and wants to get an older Pokemon GBA game(Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald) so he can import in some of their Pokemon for use in Pokemon Diamond DS. Is there a general consensus on which of the older GBA Pokemon games has the best Pokemon for use in Diamond/Pearl. He seems to think Ruby has the most powerful Pokemon, but not sure. I hate for him to spend money on an older game, but he's dead set on doing so(hopefully I can find a used one somewhere, but is there any restriction on buying used if the Pokemon have already been exported or anything like that) - As you can tell, I am clueless on this stuff, so any help and advice would be appreciated. Feel free to responde back in Pokemon lingo as I will have him read the response so he understands.

Thanks,

Michael

If you are looking to spend the least amount of money possible, i'd say buy firered or leafgreen because personally, i think the original 150 were the best pokemon. But, if you want to pay a bit more, get emerald which has more pokemon and features than ruby or sapphire.

So then that would mean a used Pokemon Emerald GBA Game could be useless, meaning he may not be able to export the pokemon. The reason why I ask- Is all of the new ones are over $45(Only Amazon Merchants - Not available direct via Amazon), and then there are l"ike new" versions on Amazon for like $23. Over $45 seems a bit riduculous for a GBA game don't you think - Is it a collectors item now or something?

Thanks,

Go for a used one as long as it's useable, also there is no worry about used games having untransferable pokemon. Ask him if he likes the 3rd generation pokemon, or first. If he likes first generation better go Fire Red/ Leaf Green, if he likes 3rd go for emerald.

I would go with the others and get emerald. But does your son have friends that own other versions of Pokemon? If so, he can { giving his friend's parents gave him permission} swap games to get POkemon he needs. That would the most money saving idea. And if you have WiFi in your household, he can visit teh GTS, and put his pokemon up for trade to get his desired pokemon, although he must have to see in his pokedex first. Try to get him emerald first and then Firered/Leafgreen as they pretty much cover the whole previous generations. Sorry kinda a nerd :P

Jts9 out..

What's wrong if he does? If is is used, he may be lucky to get some free pokemon(if there was a save file already on it).

You should buy emerald for your son, because it has almost all pokemon from ruby and sapphire. Plus I hear that the story is different and more interesting! There are new features, new pokemon(ex. teddiursa), etc.

i have 2 gba sp's so i thought i could put gold in one, fire red in the other and trade. then put fire red in my ds.

Finding one used? Try to look anywhere besides Gamestop first. They sell their games at ridiculous prices. A used version of either Ruby, Saphire, or Emerald can cost up to $35.00. In my opinion, that's a complete rip-off because for that price, you can get a brand new DS game. Not only that but a lot of game shops sell new copies for $25-$30.

If your son wants a version that will make a difference in Diamond, I would suggest getting Emerald. It has tons of great Pokemon. If he's still set on getting Ruby, then go to google.com and check up the differences between the 3 versions. But if he's such a PokeManiac, then I'd also recommend getting either Leaf Green or Fire Red. With Emerald and either LG or FR, he'll have most of the best Pokemon available in the game.
