I have plenty of evidence to prove Birdo is a man. In case you dont know who Birdo is. It first appeared in Super Mario Bros 2 on the NES. Which happened to be a re-skin of an old Famicom game called Doki Doki Panic. There is a quote in the manual for Super Mario Bros 2 on Birdo's page (Birdo is a regular boss in the game.) The qutoe is "he thinks he is a girl." This is enough evidence to prove Birdo's gender. But wait im still not done yet. In the Japanease-only Wii game Captain Rainbow. Birdo's voice actor is a man, Birdo's voice only becomes high pitched when it gets exicted. But if Birdo is a man, that makes Yoshi something I aint gonna say. Becuase I have seen concept art of Birdo and Yoshi holding hands. This means Yoshi loves Birdo. Or vice versa (please be vice versa please be vice versa PLEASE BE VICE VERSA!.) Anyway that was the evidence. Post a thread on your opinion 8)

Yes Birdo is infact Male. For whatever reason it happens to think it's female, that's why it wears a bow on its head, eye shadow on its eyes and a diamond ring on its finger. It's gender confused :P I was going to bring up the instruction manual for Super Mario Bros 2 as soon as I saw this thread but you already did in your post lol.

As for Yoshi, I don't think he's aware that Birdo's actually Male. Birdo has tricked Yoshi, so it's not really Yoshi's fault. But if Yoshi ever finds out...who knows.

Btw that's one of the reasons why I hate Birdo, it's an aweful character. I was actually disgusted when I found out the truth about it years ago.

Yes, it was in fact written in the SMB2 manual, but I think Nintendo is trying to change Birdo's image, so that it can be Yoshi's female partner. In the Mario Partys, its clearly showed as a girl. If Nintendo wants to do a homosexual character, that's fine with me, but please don't do a weird cross-gender like this.

I'm voting asexual on both Yoshi and Birdo.

If both of them have male gender, let's not forget that both of them lay eggs.

This would, by default, make both of them asexual like a snail.

I don't think Nintendo is for consistancy in linear storylines, they tend to ignore past. I still think the best possible answer to offer is asexual.

Yoshi could be a Girl in those games the Yoshi and Birdo are together because Yoshi is the name of the species their are many different Yoshi's in the Platformers I think Yoshi is a Male but in the Kart racers and Mario Sports Yoshi is Female.

But in the North American version of Super Mario Bros. 2 they usually say Birdo is a girl because they didn't want controversy and push Japanese Culture onto American Children.

Here's something interesting from the Super Mario Wiki about Yoshi.

Little is known about the gender-differences of Yoshi. The Japanese version of Super Smash Bros. Melee states in Yoshi's trophy that Yoshi reproduce asexually, meaning that they reproduce without a mate, and are neither male nor female.

Link here, http://www.mariowiki.com/Yoshi_(species)

I never knew that until now, just thought I'd do some research :P

Edit: for some reason the link doens't seem to work if you click on it, there's a supposed to be a ) after species so just type that and it should work.

This actually isn't even the only time that Nintendo has had a gender-confused character; Vivian in Thousand Year Door is, in fact, a gender-confused male character, although that was edited out for the North American translation.

Wow I didn't know that. It' probably going to ruin it for me the next time I play TTYD. Also Birdo is indeed a guy. It's possible I suppose that the Birdo in recent games is a different Birdo that is actually a girl. After all the one is SMB2 was killed by its own eggs.

I always thought Brido was a girl since in the Mario games of today he/she sounds like a girl when he/she makes sounds.

GabuEx

Because many Western gamers would associate cross-dressing or gender-confused male characters with homosexuality, the edit would be understandable. Also, the Thousand Year Door would be hit with a restrictive rating (E10+ or T) by the ESRB if Vivian is a gender-confused male due to "sexual themes."

Something I do notice is the lack of female creatures in the Mario universe and often the creatures like the Toads, Koopas, Goombas, etc. are males. They are depicted as female if they have feminine features like long eyelashes, a shirt, or jewelry. This is a common convention found in depicting non-humans in a fantasy setting.
