It started with a simple task, to preorder Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled. So I went to my local game store owner and put in my preorder. Two days later, he tells me it is impossible. The distributor had never heard of it, and the only other order came from a company in November.

The game was not in the system.

Frustrated, I drove into a Gamestop to ask for a preorder, after all that store claims to sell everything (power to the gamers?).

The game was not in the system.

Picked up DQ5 at Gamecrazy, handed a 5-spot and said Black Sigil.

The game was not in the system.

Walmart, Kmart, Meijer, Target, Best Buy, even Toys"RUs.

Nope. The Target listing was even a fluke.

That leaves one store to buy Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled. Amazon.com

Pull out those credit cards and get to ordering, I really don't see any store picking it up.

This isn't good. Maybe they'll start shipping to stores in March?

If the current situation looks like this, i think i will not trouble myself trying to find a pre-order.

I will wait 'til they solve this problem and get shipping correctly, who knows what could happened?

if this game does finally get released, it's likely that most major retailers will not carry it until they see the sales figures from amazon.com or whatever other online retailer decides to pick this up. the same happened with korg ds-10. black sigil's got a diehard following, but it's not very large because the game isn't getting any publicity. graffiti's not doing a very good job of marketing this game with the release date (which has been getting the delay like there's no tomorrow) so imminent. i wouldn't be surprised if it gets pushed back again. let's hope not.

What will most likely happen is exactly what happened with Electroplankton. An online only sale, met with very low sales (because it's only available online!?)that destroy the devs. economically, to eventually become an ebay collector's item.

I've been following this title since it was on GBA. For as long as it's been around, Black Sigil and Graffiti both have got very little hype surrounding them and stand very little chance against the already established Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Fire Emblem, Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star, and even Suikoden mountains of sales. IMO, if you don't pre-order online, there's a chance you might pay top dollar for it later down the road.

Black sigil is more of an action rpg, similar to those found on the SNES, (Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia). It's a shame really, I have been following this game for a while, and was pumped when it originally had a November release date of last year!

Time will tell though...and for the time being it looks like Amazon is what it is saying.

Newegg.com has it too.

It's sad that this is how it has turned out, but one can't be too shocked considering the delays and very little recognition of the games existence during production.

I don't know if I believe that, since on another forum I read someone's post calling it in the vein of a tactical rpg. So I'd really like a definitive answer. Aren't there any gamespot vets that know?

I've been following this game for awhile too... It's sad, but we don't even know if the game is good yet. I'm guessing we won't be seeing any reviews either? Is it worth risking 30-40$ on amazon?

This is bad... how do they expect it to sell if it's not available? Luckily, I have it preordered at Amazon.

I would say quite a few sites will be reviewing this. A lot of previews have already went up, with the major sites saying only good things about how the set-up and battle system works.

Right now, the game is 27.99 on amazon with free shipping, so if you agree with the previews then you will save a good deal of time and money getting it early.

I'm no gamespot vet but I saw a trailer somewhere and it looked similar to Chrono Trigger.

This is what the developers were going for. A new game like CT without paying exorbitant prices for the original.

Obviously Square beat them to the punch.

sirspudly would you mind helping me out as to what genre this game falls under? Saying it LOOKS like Chrono Trigger doesn't mean much after all... I mean Chrono Trigger is a full blown rpg, it doesn't have elements of a tactical or strategy rpg like Disgae or FF tactics. And you seem to know a bit about this game so mind helping me out :) ?

Since the previews for the game are horrible, the battle system is a combination of Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy 6. Or in Layman's terms, a bird's-eye Kingdom Hearts with random encounters and the option to control your teamates.

Kingdom Hearts is listed as an Action-Role Playing game, so that would be the category I would list for Black Sigil.

... Not exactly. You have to input what command u want to use in battle (Attack, magic, item etc) BUT you get to run around as well to get close enough to the enemy to wxecute your attack or get far enough to dodge them. Its a turn based real time traditional RPG :P.

Oh good, so it isn't a strategy rpg at all, thanks! Now I too am hyping this game and am sad that it's receiving no love. I'll do my best to get people to buy it, if the makers do go for normal distribution instead of online. And I haven't yet played much of Secret of Mana, mostly because the first 5 minutes didn't give me a very good impression. Not when I had previously played FF 6 and Chrono Trigger (for the record, it turns out that I find FF 6 much better than chrono trigger, I enjoyed it more. And CT was a DS game, in comparison to FF 6's gba port)

Also, can't you just settle on an avatar already? It proves really hard to recognize you in posts when you keep changing your picture all the time :P . Settling for either the blue penguin or the Jeff one is ok, I like those. But just stick with one already!!

I think you mean a Prinny, or purple penguin from Disgaea. I changed out of that one because I found the Jeff looking at Kain & Lynch PS3 while in Japan.

Then I changed out of that because it wasn't really funny anymore.

If it helps, I think I found a rather unique one in the EB hat.

I just watched the trailler. The combat looks a lot like it does in Chrono Tigger. I'm really going to have to try and pick this one up somehow...

No major retailers??? Correct me if I am wrong but here is a list of the following retailers that have Black Sigil listed -

Target
Walmart
Amazon.com
Newegg.com

3 out of 4 of those retailers are MAJOR. So where is this nonsense of retailer problems coming from? Please explain...

Apparently, I couldn't preorder or buy an advance copy because the release date was in dispute. Little did I know it wasn't coming out March 17th, but rather April 14th.

But that fact wasn't brought up here, it was brought up in the preview topic for Black Sigil, a week after I made this one.

I think the problem is over now, I just wanted to warn others that online was the only option for getting this game until recently, as word seems to be spreading a little more every day.

It's an Action RPG, very similar to Chrono Trigger in art-style and gameplay...
