So, if you've seen the new E3 trailer for Super Mario Galaxy 2, then you should remember there is ALOT going on in it. Well, I took the time to break it down for you to the best of my ability. You're Welcome.

First off, here's an annotated version of the trailer that I found: (I recommend clicking "HQ" and then going full-screen)VIDEO LINK

Wow, I think that's the smaller than all the planets in Galaxy 1 (if you don't count the shrinking planet).

Spectacular graphics!

Yoshi is in this one!

What could that power-up in the top, right corner do?

Looks like when you're on Yoshi, your aiming reticule is the small red dot. Maybe you have to encircle the spiky plant for him to eat it?

(Bob's Personal Note: The red dot is just supposed to look like Yoshi's tongue)

You can swing from floating flowers that Yoshi latches his tongue onto. And look, a winged Goomba!

Riding up the ramp like Sonic!

What does this bubble do when you feed it to Yoshi?

It makes him swell up like a balloon and float! That is wicked cool!

Hey, this is new...

It lets you drill through the ground!

He looks familiar. Looks like you get to use the new drill against him this time.

A big slide, reminiscent of Super Mario 64. This game is truly amazing now!

That thing is too cute. LittleBigPlanet anyone?

I love to see the interesting concepts of the side missions.

A new snowy/icy level!

A new underwater level!

The switch turns the surrounding water to ice! I love the way Mario skates on the ice.

A maze full of Boos!

Good to see the long-jump is returning...

That's a drum! Haha, thats awesome.

The bee suit is back!

Hmm...What's with the all the shadow Marios? Maybe they are ghost times that you can race (ala-Mariokart)?

Mario spins to flip the tiles.

Koopa-kid ships are coming out of black holes. Must be from a pre-boss-fight cinematic.

RUN!!!

Good to see that star bits are back. They were a good addition. And I love the texturing on the grass.

Good to see that you can still keep Yoshi when using a launch star.

That's it! I cannot wait!!!

Post your thoughts.

Super thanks to bob_newman for fixing the layout for me!

In short, Mario Galaxy style and Yoshi=Instant Win. But something I noticed when I first watched the trailer is that the worlds while they still have the Galaxy feel to them seem to have more of a Mario 64 vibe to them. It looks like the game will find an even better mix of the spehrical gameplay and the large open environments of Mario 64.

looks awsome, as you'd expect

i understand why people want one mario platformer a gen, it gives time to make things refresh and no rehashing

but Galaxy was so good, expanding upon it, and making it mre difficult (as they said it will be) is going to be awesome

don't worry guys, this isn't a game with a certain Lombax (9 games in 7 years) its MARIO! looks to be a solid sequel

i can't wait, Sin and Punishment is q1 2010, NSMB Wii is Q4 2009, so lets hope this is Q2 at latest

I'm prediciting a May 2010 release. At least i hope so.

I don't care what the pessimists say, this game is going to be incredible and possibly better than the first. I'm really looking forward to the new soundtrack too. The Galaxy orchestra made one amazing soundtrack and we will probably hear some more ear pleasing goodness.

I dunno, I think it looks the same tbh (besides yoshi, and a few minor details). That's just my opinion though...

Well if the first one was awesome, why make any drastic changes? If it's the same wouldn't that be a good thing?

Also, nice for putting this togethrr WetWilli, and thanks Bob_Newman for making it look pleasant. I can't wait for this game, but time seems to go a lot faster these days so I'm sure it'll be around in no time.

Thanks for doing this. I was going to do the same thing myself by watching it 100 times like I did with the first one, but now I don't have to. Though I am going to anyway. :P I'm liking what I see so far. It may be very similar to the original, with a few additions (Yoshi FTW), but I don't care. The original was the best Wii game so far, and this one should be just as good. I'm loving what I see so far. :D

Oh I agree...even though I didn't particularly care for the first game too much, it was a very solid product (like most Nintendo games are). I'm excited for the people who are happy.

Screw that, 3 great Mario games on the NES(sort of) 2 great Mario games for the SNES, I was sad to see the change to one per gen, I'm glad Nintendo is returning to form. Unlike alot of people would try and have others believe, there's nothing wrong with playing something twice, not every game needs to be new and innovative. It's actually quite a waste to throw away a great idea on only one game. Could you imagine missing out on the greatest that was SMB3 because Nintendo wanted to change to throw out the formula of Mario Bros.

I dunno, I think it looks the same tbh (besides yoshi, and a few minor details). That's just my opinion though...

Nah the worlds definitely look more expansive, I think its kind of necessary as well, I mean Yoshi wouldn't be much use running around as many broken up spheres as there was in the first game.

Really looks amazing, even more than Super Mario Galaxy. The music that's playing in the trailer is a new arrangement of the Gusty Garden Galaxy theme. Maybe there'll be new arrangements of other themes too, looking forward to another amazing soundtrack.

Adding Yoshi was an awesome idea. It's cool how he can change colors and gain new abilities like running faster and floating.

That new wood npc looks cool, can't wait to see more of that galaxy. The new snow galaxy looks awesome, really excited for that one. It even looked like there was a music based galaxy, I saw some drums.

Mario's head as a planet is awesome.

Paragoombas and Red Koopa Troopas were added also.

I hope Rosalina returns, it wouldn't be the same without her either.

It's looking great!

It's kinda interesting that because mario games are always different from each other, that some say "this game looks just the same". Itdoesn't feel like something usual in Nintendo. However companies like activision, EA do it everytime and noone complains.

butit's clear from the images they had a lot more ideias than what they couldget into Galaxy 1.

Just copy everything and paste it. I think it should work.

Thanks for the screens! This was a great trailer if you ask me, and this is coming from someone who doesn't even like the idea of a direct sequel to Galaxy. Only one thing about the video worries me: those purple coins in that "Shadow Mario" clip. I don't know about you guys, but I found those "Purple Coin" levels and the rest of those Comet missions were one of the few significant flaws in the original. I just feel like they were a cheap way of coming up with a way of having 120 stars in the game without having to create brand new levels or challenges. Now, judging by all of those Shadow Marios, the coins are probably part of an entirely original challenge, so I shouldn't complain just yet, but I'll still be keeping my eye on their plans to include those lazy comet levels.

I actually really liked the purple coin levels. A lot better than the 100 coin missions and red coin missions in Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine IMO. I'm glad they're back.

The speed comet I agree was a cheap extension of gameplay, just running through as fast as you can doesn't really add anything to the gameplay and only a minor difficulty increase. The Daredevil comet wasn't too bad in some instances and did increase the difficulty like the boss fight against the stone ghost, though the funny thing is I beat that on the first try after dying a number of times with regular health. The races were fun, it was definitely a fun way to tackle some of the stages forcing you to use new tactics to get through the stage. The purple coin thing is better than the 100 coin collection from Mario 64 because stages were built directly upon that as opposed to just running around collectiing coins from anywhere.

The stages in the trailer seemed a lot bigger than Galaxy 1's stages, which is a verygood thing. And I totally missed that drum planet the first time around--nice find!

Main 'complaint' with SMG was that there were so many cool things shown, that You felt like they should have let You play more with it. Like the ball, like the underwater worlds, like the racing etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

So i won't be complaining about getting a SMG2...
It looks really good and i missed all those things safe for Yoshi, the first time i saw the trailer.

Yup, sure does look amazing. I feel it will be so much different to the first aswell, as Nintendo and Miyamoto wouldn't carry on the Galaxy idea if they didn't believe there wouldn't be many fresh ideas for a whole new game.

What could that power-up in the top, right corner do?

When you look at the trailer that block appears to be one of thosecycling power up blocks from Super Mario World.

Agreed... however I can't complain since Yoshi is in it, if he wasn't I would be bulking that this game is just the same, but its not and their are some minor differences, also the drill is really cool, and can't wait to use that, I just hope that we get new powerups added onto it, like Tanooki Mario or Frog Mario making a return, that would be frickin sweet.

Great job but I don't think Mario spins to flip the tiles. I think the tiles flip on their own and Mario was just spin jumping from one tile to another.

As for the graphics, they do look very silimar. Probably due to the fact that it's a sequel. But, there are obvious enhancements in the graphics. Just look at that grass! (Yay, Grass!). But, Galaxy was a beautiful game, so I'm not complaining.
